Indentification help? Last viewed: 1 hour ago

Hello, I just bought a light blue pearl Slingerland kit and am having trouble identifying when it may have been made.

The dimensions:

bass 20x14

tom 12x8

floor tom 14x14

The bass is missing a Set o Matic tom mount. There is no ride mount. The interiors are painted beige and there is a P stamp in the bass, but no corresponding date.

The badges are black and silver Niles, two with serial numbers in the 46xxxx range, one in the 45xxx range.

My eye tells me late 60's, early 70's, however given my limited knowledge, things don't quite add up. Any thoughts?

I have in fact checked out the articles. While I have been able to figure a few things out, I have noticed some discrepancies with the kit as well. From what I can tell the beige shells were in production until '71, however the badges and serial numbers places these drums post '80. I recognize that shells often sat around for a while and the serial numbers are less than scientific, but is it unusual to have a nearly 10 year discrepancy between these two features?

[COLOR="Navy"]tmac:

Your drums were made in 1971. They all have the first version Light Blue Pearl that changed to a very different looking second version in 1973. The badge pictured is the etched black & silver oval of 1970 - 1972; drums after that have the football black & silver badge. You have matching inlays in the bass drum hoops characteristic of the early 1970s - a later 1970's LBP bass drum would have chrome inlays. You have the early 1970's large-knob J hook tone control on the floor tom - a later 1970's drum would have a solid-knob tone control. The logo front BD head is an early 1970s version. Beige interiors such as on your bass drum are an early 1970's characteristic. The large hex head lug screws on your bass drum are classic early 1970s - they are smaller in the later 1970s. A single P stamp with no date is characteristic of the early 1970s - there are no P stamps in the late 1970s. And a 5-digit serial number 45xxx is consistent with a 1971 date.

So the only real wrinkle we would need to address is that 2 drums have 6-digit serial numbers 46xxxx. Would you be able to supply clear pictures of those 2 badges?
