In what year did you buy your first Turkish K? Last viewed: 2 hours ago
I got my first K new in around 1967. It was a 20", I don't recall the weight. Soid it with my kit, which was a mid sixties set of Ludwig Classics ( I don't think they were actually called Classics back then) in black diamond pearl in 12, 14, 20 sizes and a supraphonic 400 snare, a Ludwig Speed King pedal, and the best hi hat stand of that period, the Rogers direct pull. I had bought the K and most of the other equipment at Sam Ash's main store in Hempstead, NY on Long Island. When I say main store, I mean THE main store at that time. Sam Ash was a small local chain in those days. I sold everything in 1975 when I stopped playing for a number of years. As you might imagine, I have often regretted selling that equipment.

If I only knew then what I know now. Sam Ash had around 12 to 15 K rides in stock from 18 to 22 inches. They were all new of course. The 18s were around $70 I think and the 22's were around $90. A lot of money back then. You could buy (and I did) a brand new Ludwig Supraphonic 400 5x14 chrome snare for around $85! That drum today sells for $400 new on line. Being 1967, I'm guesiing all the K's were new stamps but of course no one new about or followed that stuff back then.

I bought 4-18" NOS New Stamp K's in London in 1988 for $140 EACH from Supreme Percussion............
When I came back home, bought a few pairs of 15" hats too from them.............
Lou Dias, the owner said they had up to 22" ones a few months earlier!
ALL NOS......found in a bonded warehouse in Switzerland he said..........
Funny thing..........I got some NOS Old Stamps from a guy in Switzerland some years back, and just recently, some more showed up there WTF?

Does make you wonder. My most recent old K acquisition around 18 months ago was a newer new stamp from the mid '70s. I got it in eBay and it sure looked NOS. It didn't have a mark on it, stick or otherwise. It had the sheen, top and botom of a new cymbal, not one that had been polished or cleaned. The signature on the bell was so crisp it looked new. I have always wondered where it had been for 35 years to look that way. It was clearly not played all those years.
