I also into cheap drums MIJ,
There are two "Hoshino" companies from the stencil days. This is the original company, rather family company name of the Star drum company. As the transition began from Star to TAMA in 1973-5, the company used the Hoshino name brand to build the stencils for 2 years to shore up profits while TAMA Drums became self sufficient. This lug design, which we refer to as "Sharks Tooth", is a close relative of the early TAMA lugs. One of the lug designs anyway, was similar to this one. After TAMA became profitable, they stopped production of all stencils and Pearl had the vast majority of stencil contracts for approximately the next 15 years, then several other companies took up the reins and began to design and build the crap we see today.
So, this is still a "Star" stencil, but really a Hoshino...confused yet?

I also into cheap drums MIJ,
Cool stuff guys, my drums (R-360's) are faded beyond anything, but I'm thinking that's OK for now ;-)
Of course drums with faded wraps are OK! First of all, it shows they are, at least somewhat, in their original state. And it also gives them character. Yellowed/mellowed WMP? awesome! Slightly faded oyster pearl? someone had fun with that set for a long time! These imperfections are a major part of the charm of vintage drums.
My daughter, friends and I are still having fun with them... Love to find another set! and a 14 floor tom!
