I need help identifying these drums Last viewed: 15 hours ago

Hey Big Daddy thanks for the great info! You stated that you did not see the Rogers script logo, and there's a reason for that. I just realized that IT'S NOT THERE! Bummer. I see the holes where it should be, but no logo. They are 3 tiny pin holes that run on an angle so I'm pretty sure that it would have been the script logo there.

1967 -1969 huh? How can that be called vintage? That's 2 - 4 years younger than I am. Errr... ummmm... guess that means I'm vintage too!

I'll get the other drums up in a bit.

Thats a great find! You can find a Rogers script badge on Ebay easily, and for the snare frame, make sure you get the correct one....there were two sizes and two designs. You need the earlier design with the "extensions" on the frame as well as the rubber feet for it. Snare wires.....you can use puresound's vintage series for the dynasonic....why search out worn out originals? And make sure you get the frame for a 14" drum.....15" frames are starting to pop up on ebay and if you don't know, then you're stuck with something useless.....those are usually from 15" dynasonic marching snare drums....also, make sure the frame comes with the adjuster screws.....then go to the main vintagedrumguide page to get to the "how to set up a dynasonic" page......definately worth the effort! Great sounding snares when set up correctly....

Ludwig dude thanks for the great info. I have heard people talk about how great this snare is and how it's worth the effort to restore. But I'm struggling with that a bit. Part of me wants to clean it up and sell it as is and use the $$ for new heads for my kit, but then the other part of me wants to fix her up and own an awesome vintage drum. I'm having a hard time deciding. Even more so knowing that it will cost at least $100.00 to get this snare into a playable state.

Hmmmm.. what to do.. what to do...

Well....a few years ago I bought one in worse shape.....had Pearl lugs on it and things like that...cost me a bit to get it back to the way it was supposed to be and I was doing this to use it as a flip on ebay! Once it was all back to the way it was supposed to be it sounded great. It sure was hard to part with it, but I did. Now I wish I hadn't!

And here are the rest of the drums I scored in the $20.00 deal. Nothing as good as the Rogers snare.

The natural finish on the shells is is raw. Meaning no stain, no sealer, no clear coat. Just raw wood. And it's marred.

I'm pretty sure that these are pure junk. But it's OK, I got a Rogers snare out of the deal! Excited

Thanks for the pics of the kit. The tom mount hardware looks Pearl-like in some ways, but different in others. And to me, the wood on the outside of the shells seems too light to be the standard crappy luan they used back in the days (grain seems tighter too).

The lugs are also a bit different than others I've seen.

What does the badge on that black tom say?

Any chance we could have a peek at the inside of the shells? I wouldn't toss them just yet.

Big Daddy, I can't imagine that these drums are worth more than $5.00. They feel very flimsy, the hardware looks and feels cheap. The black drum is completely different from the rest of the kit. The lugs are not the same as the other drums and the air vent is a different color. The badge on the black drum reads "Rockwood manufactured by Hohner"

I'll try to snap a pic of the inside of the small tom.

And don't worry, I wont toss these. I may cut them up and make electric drums with mesh heads out of them though. ;)

Those are the Pearl 'Tempro" stencil type lugs....that kit looks liek an early '70's.

I agree the wood is light colored, but the way the grain is running and such I would still bet on it being Luan. My guess is it was wrapped once and somebody removed the wraps.

I mean, Dugr.....just the hardware and hoops on those alone is worth about $50-75 to someone who is into vintage Japanese drums, so....

Regarding the snare....get the snare frame, pull 'r apart, clean 'er up, reassemble 'er, get some good heads and play 'er for a while. Then you can decide whether to keep or not.

These really are very, very good snares and they are very sought after; some folks would argue the BEST metal ones which Rogers ever produced...

So, to have landed one for...nothing...and have put in a couple of hours of work and maybe $75-100 of replacement parts....hell, you gotta keep 'er for at least a while.

Look like Maxwins. I honestly would like to have them if we can talk about it. I want to have a second set of pure old cheap drums for the neighbor kid to give me and my son lessons on. PM if you will.
