I HATE bid Sniping! Last viewed: 22 minutes ago

I don't have an ebay account. But, it's just bidding on an item(The snipper one it fair and square just like you would have.)???? So why is everyone so heated? Let me know if i don't understand.

From jonnistix

My position is the a$ that has not been involved at all during the bidding, and then pops in in the very last few seconds and snipes it, not the HONORABLE bidders doing battle. If I am in heated bidding with 1, 2, 3, hell, I don't care how many, it's the one that is hiding out, and hits you blind side, because you already have a sense of the others' commitment level. Those are the "Snipers". They hide in the shadows and, as far as I am concerned are cowards. I don't care what they think of themselves, I call them, openly, cowards. It's my position, and I will always see it this way. It used to not be allowed on ebay. There was a check box when I joined that basically said you would not participate in this practice, that you would be an HONORABLE auction participant. I guess the powers that be decided it was not a worthy cause to have honor as a benchmark anymore.

I've been that bidder several times before that has lost an item after placing bids for days, and several bids towards the close of an auction, and wound up upset that I lost. I finally realized that in my mind, I was already regarding the item as mine, and I'm thinking someone was bidding against me to make me pay more and more for what I considered to be mine already. Truth is, the item is not mine yet, and I have to pay more than anyone else to actually own the item.

So, I come up with my highest bid I'm willing to pay, and bid in the last few seconds. Occasionally, this amount is far above the current bid. As may be, as well, an ongoing bidder's highest bid, being placed days before. Is that an HONORABLE bidder also? I mean, he's not manually placing bids, and "doing battle"...... He's just kicked back, watching the auction, and seeing if he's willing to place another higher bid. And when is the latest he could do so, and not fall into the a$$hole category?

For me, I choose not to play the game of Ebay bid wars.

I have a bid in mind that I'm willing to pay.

If someone bids higher than me, I don't get the item.

For me, there are no a$$holes involved... just bidders.

And that HONORABLE bidder on Ebay, just might be the jerk that's letting his dog take a crap on my lawn.

This is true. In my mind, even the guy that placed his bid 5 days ago is doing battle the way an auction is supposed to work. It's the way this system is set up. And yes, I too have the highest point in mind before I bid, however I do not always post that bid. If I am losing because I am not willing to go higher than the guy I have been up against, then I consider it a fair loss, not so the times I have the check book out because the other bidders decided I wanted the item more than they, and it is snatched at the last second, when I would maybe have been willing to go another 0.50, or even 100.00. I never place my bids with say a 10.00 reserve, and I know that I should, but the reason is, I enjoy tending the auctions' end too much, but I don't agree with people who think it's cool, or funny, to snatch something away from others that have been bidding as though they are in a live auction. If you are in a live auction, this does not happen, it is not allowed to happen.

That is the point others are making; that you should have the option of extensions to stop bid sniping from occurring, or at least minimizing it, as is done in live auctions. If ebay made a change in the policy involving this practice, it would allow the seller or only others that have been involved in the bidding process for more than last 6 seconds, to make the call to extend. In the sellers' favor, they could get an extra kick. For those that have been bidding, they have the option to bid up, if they choose, without losing to someone who is disrespectful, and the sniping would decrease dramatically, if not stop altogether.

I see some real benefit to that scenario, possibly one final "blind" bid could be made by all who might be deemed included, and the high bid wins, but must be paid in full.

I see, however, a clear possibility for collusion between an unscrupulous seller, and a partner, where the partner places a snipe bid forcing the extension, and pushing up the price....

But shoot, nothing's perfect!

But shoot, nothing's perfect!:)

You, sir, have not tried my waffles!

All that other stuff is part and parcel of a broken system with no fix in sight...much like many other 'systems' we deal with on a daily basis. We slog through and accept the flaws, pimples, and warts. I gave up on the bay doing the right thing when they honored a deadbeat buyer who left me high and dry and a very unscrupulous buyer who tried to get me to pay twenty bucks for positive feedback. An amazing amount of evidence and actual communications were presented to their blind eyes and deaf ears.

Seriously flawed...but necessary at this juncture...sad to say.

Yep.....

Ebay went down once in the last 2 hours of my auction of a 22 inch Zildjian Kustom Dry Ride....wound up selling for $105, bummer

Ebay would do nothing, although they did acknowledge the system went down.

I contacted the winner, he understood, and we arrived at a fair price, sans Ebay or PayPal.... whew!!

Exactly. Those gripin' about snipin' somehow miss the key point: the winning bidder was willing to pay more. What, you say, you would have bid higher if only you'd known it was needed? Waffler. Choose what it's worth to you, and bid. If it's worth more to someone else, that's no fault of theirs.

Don't like how eBay's proxy bidding works? Fine, the extend-until-bidding-stops model is good too. But that isn't the model eBay currently uses. Oh well. Learn how to be effective within their model, or go someplace else. But for God's sake stop *****ing about it.

Funny Post He called me an a$$hole!

Quite tragic that you need a$$hole scapegoats like me to blame for your low bids.

If your self imposed moral superiority prevents you from using a legitimate bidding system and you are too cheap to place a high enough proxy bid, you are only making yourself your own victim.

Bottom line, you didn't bid enough.

You are not going to change the world by whining about it, and you are only going to alienate yourself by categorically calling everyone who snipes a$$holes.

I LOVE sniping!!! Set it and forget it. If I win, excellent. I get something at or below the price I set. If I lose, excellent. I didn't get caught up in ridiculous, futile (but honorable) bidding drama and I didn't pay too much.

You win some, you lose some. No drama. Don't be a bad loser.
