I'm 23 and I have some cool vintage Ludwig. But I live in Italy and prices are too high here! So I only buy from ebay.com or from this forum.. And it's not too easy to find people who can ship their drums overseas! I want to move to America!!!

once the brass ceases to glitter, and the drum looses its luster, and the stage remains dark, all you have left is the timbre of family.

Since I posted this I have heard from and met a lot of younger guys who either play or collect vintage drums. In particular I've been meeting a lot of 20somethings who really appreciate 60's kits, and gig with them. This seems to me to be a more recent phenomenon? Why do you think this is if it is true?

Wow. I thought the forum was just a bunch of old ****s like me. I'm getting ready to turn 56. Good to see younger drummers collecting/playing vintage drums. I have been playing drums since I was 12. I don't think of the drums I play and collect as vintage they are just the drums I grew up playing. I guess that makes me vintage too!

It's not a recent phenomenon. Young and old ... vintage drummers all.

As a collector and drummer I started collecting drums in my early 20's by the time I reached my 50's I had one of the largest collections of drum ever to be assembled.Today in my 60's and retired with a ton of illnesses you get at old age and it slows you down. The way I started was as I was working back then I saw thing that I liked and brought them. I started storing them in my mothers home Unaware the amount of stuff I had, when she past away and moved stuff to my own home that when I came to see all the stuff I had and still have. I had over 200 bongos, 15 drum kits from numerous brands in Leedy and Leedy Ludwig timbales over 100 and not to mention Rogers stuff. Thanks to Amanda's music in Texas, Drummers world in New York and many friends that have brought a lot of my collection.

When I was young I always wanted the latest, newest, drums and so did most of my friends as I recall. But as I got older I became nostalgic for past drum sets and in acquiring those drums began to see the beauty, sound, and value of older drums and I got hooked. Then I found this forum which only feeds my addiction.
