Well....lets see...I turn 40 next month, I accumulate more than collect...LoLoLoLo......and I still play out once in a while...I play in a more simplistic for the song kinda style (think Al Jackson Jr, Benny Benjamin, Charlie Watts, well you get the idea.) while playing mostly classic/vintage gear, so does that make me a vintage drummer? Hmmmm

I turn 53 this coming october, I've collected vintage gear since 1976 well actually earlier, I have my original band snare drum which is a 1969 Ludwig acrolite! I gig with a Dw kit but do use vintage sometimes,my cymbals are vintage and mostly that is what I gig with!

Well.........each year on my birthday I make it a practice of "subtracting" one year from my age. I've been doing this ever since I turned 50. I'm now 42 and look forward to celebrating my "41st" next year!LoLoLoLo

I turned 31 this year. I was driven towards vintage drums because of their great sound and look. In my opinion, few modern drums (except for maybe the new George Way snares) compare in looks, and none come close in sound. The other thing I really enjoy about vintage drums is learning about the history of the American companies and how they evolved through the years. Thats probably the paleontologist in me speaking :).

I'm 36 and I love the sound & look of old vintage drums. You cannot get the same sounds from any of the new drums. Wood sounds very mellow when aged.

I've been collecting & playing vintage drums for about 15 years now. In the last year or so, I've gotten into collecting & playing vintage MIJ gear. I'm really enjoying that part of collecting right now.

I hit 50 last fall and I'm just a student drummer (still taking lessons after 5 years)...

Puttling together he Vistalites was mostly an adventure in how to use Ebay... the kit and matching hardware was simply a vision I wanted to accomplish. I was not really attached to the soul of the drums at the time.

But there's something about the sound and vibe of those Camco drums... after learning on them for two years, I felt compelled to have a kit (or two) of my own to regularly play on, listen to and lovingly admire. We are spiritually attached at the hip...

The George Way refurb is a multifaceted excercise: Once again using my acquisition and networking skills, and still stroking the mojo of Camco while learning about what it takes to bring 'hurt' drums back to life...

I am a vintage drummer. Was created in 1940. Like vintage drums for the sound. Been into them since early 70s. Still playing about 100 dates a year. Played for a living all my life. You guys though, are all WHIPPERSNAPPERS!

Well, 52 here. Let me be honest as I can with this but in the late '70's and early 80's when I was playing full time, the Ludwigs and Slingerlands were in their late phases of their career. The hardware was loathed and did not hold up on the road, the bass drums crept and the import drums and hardware were taking over the market. I jumped ship as everyone had Ludwig and Zildjian because that was all you could get where I grew up.

Little did we know at the time that these were actually some of the best sounding drums ever produced. Now, I have two old 3 ply Ludwig sets. my son plays one as his primary kit and of course wanted a modern set....Until of course I took him to play some. He's now a Vintage player at the ripe old age of 15.

I do still use a big Tama birch for outdoor shows and a ludwig for the smaller clubs.

So far it sounds like Atomicmorganic and I are the senior guys here...I'll be 68 in November. Never played to earn a living, but have played off and on throughout my life, sometimes regularly, sometimes years between gigs. Strangely, I feel that I am now playing better than ever. Maybe now that I'm a "seasoned citizen" I've lost my inhibitions and I'm just so damn thankful when I get a chance to play!

Like Ploughman I never intended to collect vintage drums...me and my 1963 Ludwig Hollywood kit just became "vintage". In the past year I have started to add a few vintage snares and memorabilia to my "collection".

Wow, 70! Tom, I had you pegged for much younger....

Myself, I'm turning 46 this September, started collecting about 5 years ago. Got bit by the vintage bug when I was 25, WMP Ludwig 1967 4-piece was my first.
