How Old is a vintage drummer? Last viewed: 0 seconds ago

Loading...

I have this theory that the majority of vintage drum collectors are in their 50's or 60's or older, which can influence which drums are most collected and collectable.

Im sure some are 30s and 40s but most of the guys I know are older. Mostly 50's and 60's.

Thoughts?

1958 Gretsch Kit
1966 Kent Kit
1969 Ludwig Standard Kit
1970 Rogers Power Tone Kit
1970's Ludwig Vistalite Kit
1994 Yamaha Maple Custom
2010 Yamaha Maple Custom
28 assorted snares (including some real crap)
and 1 really nice K Zildjian Istanbul

If the vintage drum shows are an indicator, I would agree.

Would you say collectors collect for:

-Sentimental reasons?

-value?

-sound?

Maybe we should make a distinction here between a "vintage drummer" and a "collector". I'm 35 and have no desire to start a collection anytime soon, but I enjoy my one vintage kit.

Well I'm 49 and NOT a drummer, yet I have amassed 3 nice old kits...and some unholy brass and bronze to go with.....

Well, so far, three of us on this thread are 49. That's interesting.

You don't have a theory. You have a question that will eventually be worked into a specialized statement that you can test. That would become your hypothesis. I would suggest taking a random sampling from more than just this site if you hope to substantiate your leanings (bias).

For the record, there are about fifty or so drummers and musicians I work with through my church. All but a few play vintage gear and most all are still in school.

Most every studio I've recorded inhad multiple vintage kits and a huge variety of vintage snares. I assure you, there was no age limitations put on the drummers.

I'm your average two thousand year old man.
