Ok gang..Can someone please give my "tub" an identity?
1. Model
2. Date of Mfg (ballpark)
3. Value
Thanks,
Mike
That sure is in good condition. Looks like a Universal model. Because these drums sound so great they command a very good price. Probably 1920s.
Thanks, it took a lot of buffing to get it to shine. It has an upside or downside depending on how you see it, it's engraved "sacto city unified school district #19" on the side. I think it's cool because it gives a little history of its previous life. I think sacto is Sacramento, CA.
Looks like an OK cleaning job... I see one fingerprint in the photo on the hoop! Eye Ball
All kidding aside there is an extensive selection of Ludwig catalogs on the main web site. That will help you with your questions.
David
Ok, so based on the catalogs that are available.
1. Concert Model (No mention of Universal in the early catalogs? this drum does not have the Ludwig etched on the side.)
2. 1918 - 1922
3. Value - ?????
Thanks as always..
Mike
PS: I'm freaking hooked on vintage drums...my son and I are having a lot of fun tinkering in the garage.
PSS: David, I saw that print after I posted, got up, walked over and gave it a quick wipe down...LOL!!

1. Universal Model
2. The Universal is in the 30's
3. $200 - $275
David
Could it be a Pioneer? The Universals look to be 5" deep (this drum is 6.5"). I thought it was older but the Elkhart nails it to no earlier than the 30's right?
There is a universal in the 1927 catalog. Right under the black beauty.
I have a drum that looks identical to this one, except mine says Ludwig and Ludwig Chicago.
