Hummm. The price has dropped to $65.00 What to do, what to do?

Where do you live?

I am almost certain those are early TAMA tom mounts and arms, and they are very good. Again, those shells resonate like none you've likely ever heard. For 65....man, that's hard to pass, because I would not let them.

jonni. the drum mounts say TRAK. They seem to be very heavy duty.

So what is that snare drum?

There's no name on it. Apparently the sticker fell off.

Ten lug COS. I'll post a picture later.

The guy I bought it from said he just put on a new heavy duty Marching head. Looks like it's weaved with fiberglass strands. Looks like you could hit it with a sludge hammer.

That's a Remo Falams marching snare head. It's a sheet of Kevlar fabric sandwiched between Mylar, hence the name: Fabric laminate. I'd suggest getting it off that drum. Crank that head anywhere near the tension it was designed for and it'll destroy the shell and lugs of a drum set or concert snare. And at typical drum set snare tension, it'll just sound like #$%&.

OK, the snare is an earlier, probably very late 70s, 79 or early 80s, the strainer is the identifier. It a Pearl stencil, CB700, Dixon, no telling what name it had. Anyway, SkyDog is right, get the Falams off and put an Amb on it. The TRAK toms are from the 80s, and at least one of the bass drums is an early to mid 60s Pearl or Star 3 ply. Are they both the same? If so....Mal-Mart has a "Granitone" type of paint, spray for about $8 a can, it covers nicely, and would do well in the interiors to cover the ugly in there. Now, for the exteriors, those are going to be a different deal all together. There is a seller or three on the bay that sells sparkle wraps that are sticky paper, and they look pretty good, just not really sturdy. If the toms are TRAK, they are also a stencil of Pearl from the mid-late 80s and are just an updated version of the 70s stencil stuff. They are the same type of 6 or 9 ply mahogany shells so they are only going to sound as good as the edges and heads. Royce and Maxwin shells are what they are, in all truth. Some if the TRAK lugs are different, but they are still just cheap, thin casings that tend to crack easily under high tension.

If, on the other hand, the shells of the toms are really thin, you have the potential to put together a nice little giging kit using the parts and pieces to make kit, 4 or 5 pcs. The floor tom will not really match sonically unless you roundover the edges a bit, as they are much more dense shells than the thinnies.

The snare is a crap shoot. It may, or may not, have a pleasant tone. Many of those sound OK, and are typically "student snares" today. That shell is still used today, as are about 10 others for the student snares of today. The really cheap ones, not a good, decent student snare, which I am uncertain anyone makes one anymore, since Ludwig quit making Acrolites.

Wow....I said a whole lot of nothing....
