Here's yet ANOTHER old thread that I need to add my two cents to...
I also live in Hawaii and was looking for a 20" Gretsch logo bass drum head online today. I saw that Memphis Drum Shop was selling Gretsch logo bass drum heads in all sizes, both with center and off-center logos through Ebay. While the Ebay listing boasts "Free Shippping," when I scrolled a bit further down the ad, I see that:
Free Shipping is only available to the 48 Continental United States. Residents of Alaska, Hawaii, and Puerto Rico, please contact us for a shipping estimate.
So, I sent Memphis Drum Shop a short note asking if they will only send stuff out using FedEx, their preferred shipping method. They send me a quick response telling me that they could also send it to me using USPS Priority Mail for $37.62. So, with the head alone selling for $53.99, with shipping my total cost comes out to a whopping $91.61 for a 20" Remo Coated Ambassador Bass Drum head with a Gretsch logo!
I mean, why are the logo heads so expensive to begin with? Don't plain 20" Ambassador Bass Drum heads sell for about $30? Isn't it like free advertising for the drum companies?
Once again, I guess that's the price we Hawaii folks have to pay to live in paradise, huh? Violin
