Back again with a 'is it worth it?' question. This time I found this Gretsch Blackhawk blue sparkle 80ish looking set. It sells at about 700usd wih all you see in the picture - pst3 cymbals, low-q stands (not originals), Gretsch Twin Pedal. I wonder if snagging all the Gretsch made pieces for say, 500usd would be a good investment? I know the Gretsch sound is great and this would make a real nice payer's kit but I would also be concerned with the collectible value here.
Gretsch drums - good deal? Last viewed: 13 minutes ago
BlackHawks are worth about $250 not much more as they are an import set made for Gretsch.....luan shells....kinda so-so quality.....
And the cymbals are Paiste low end PST series, which are not worth a whole lot either.
I picked up a NEW in the box drop shipped to my house from the Gretsch distribution center Blackhawk kit for $300. Definitely NOT a good deal, this one.
All right, thanks! :) I thought they could be smth more than import drums since they looked to be made before 1990 but it seems I still have some homework to do :o
Earlier Blackhawks (from an Asian country) were not as good as the ones they are producing today (in an Asian country). They had 45 degree edges and the finishes were ugh! The kits they are putting out today at least have a rounded edge and decent quality wraps. Even the hardware is pretty cool. You can catch one of these new ones for sale at the end of the year for next to nothing. Like I said, I picked up a 5 piece kit for 300 (22,16,14s,13,12). They clear out the stock to make room for the new colors. GuitarCenter and several others do this. Watch for the deals.
