It just occured to me that you might even try a furniture repair shop or a guitar repair shop. The reason I mention it, is because the mechanics of the job involve re-gluing wood plies and these types of repairs are done by furniture shops and guitar repair shops all the time. It's really not a difficult job -IF you understand what to do and have the tools. -just an idea, anyway.

I sent am email and pictures to Precission Drum Co. and ask for a quote. I really would like to find a website or some instructions and how to do it myself. I really think I could do it.----Thanks O

A good cabinet maker is a drummer's best friend Walking. Although, if you buy a crapload of clamps, glue, and some good sandpaper, you could likely do it yourself.

Ninefingers,

I agree with you, in general....and IF the job was going to be on a lesser drum set, then I wouldn't hesitate to encourage him to do the job himself. But that type of Blue Oyster Pearl matched kit is a rare bird and I just want him to have it be perfect. For example: If he tries to glue it, himself and clamps too hard, then the wood or the wrap can crack or bruise. If the crack penetrates the ply to any appreciable depth, then the amount and the application of the glue is very important in order to get it to squeeze into the separation.

If he had a 1990 Pearl Export with the same problem, I would be singing him a different song! What he's got is a beautiful rare Ludwig kit in excellent condition and fully matching drums. I say roll out the red carpet for that one!

I emailed the Precission Drum Co. along with pictures for a quote. They emailed me back and said the repair would be $20.00 + shipping. Which is a great deal and I know that job would be done right.
