Good deal for $125? Last viewed: 31 minutes ago

Seemed fair to me although the EBAY seller obviously wasn't a drummer and listed it:

Vintage Rogers Metal Snare Drum, 14" Serial #955124 -NR

Up for auction is a vintage Rogers snare drum from the '60s or '70s. Head diameter is 14 inches. This drum works good and sounds great but is missing five of its adjusting bolts. Serial #955124.

Thanks

Big R Dynasonic without the snare bridge, good snare when it's fully set up. I've got 4 of them!!

Its better to have people think you're an idiot, than to open your mouth and prove them wrong, unless you doubt yourself then speak away....

Thanks, could this possibly be a SuperTen? Did all Dynasonics originally come with snare frames?

It's not a Rogers SuperTen, it is in fact a COB Big "R" Dynasonic. SuperTen COS snare drums all have a SMOOTH shell, whereas COB Dynasonics from this particular era have 5 lines running around the outside of the shell, such as this one has. And...

YES!... ALL Dynasonics be they wood or COB have a snare frame. The snares are pretensioned on the frame... ( although that is adjustable too ) ... and the entire frame is raised up to just gently "kiss" the resonant head, and that is what gives the Dynasonic it's very unique, extremely sensitive, amazingly articulate... sound! They can take some time to get set up correctly though, and what ultimately happens is, the drummer gets frustrated because the drum isn't sounding "right" to his ears, so in desperation, the snare frame is removed... ( and a lot of times thrown out or lost! ) ... and the snares are put back on in the conventional manner... except! ... the Rogers Dynasonic isn't a conventional drum. And now, due to the very shallow to almost imperceptible snare beds, the drum "usually" buzzes like a WWII German "buzz-bomb". I suspect that was probably the case with the drum you have here... and ... at $125.00... ya done good!! It does need a snare frame, but those can be had easily enough, and in this case, Dave Drew has the right model available for this year drum... cool!

Whoops - just figured out that it is Al Drew who makes that frame on EBAY.....I'm a little slow this morning.

In addition to the frame and PureSound snares I'm assuming I also need to locate a snare side hoop like this one on EBAY to restore this Dynasonic to as close to original as possible?

Am I missing anything else?

Thanks again.

Yes... you are correct... Dave Drew owns/runs Al Drew's Music in RI. He can be contacted through eBay of course, or at Al Drew's Music in Woonsocket, RI. And...

YES!... that is the bottom hoop you need for this drum. With a snare frame from Dave, a set of PureSound Dynasonic wires which will fit the frame perfectly, this model hoop... ( which you can hopefully snag off eBay! ) ... plus a few tension rods, you will be up and runnin' with a nice Rogers COB Dynasonic! BTW, I wrote a set-up guide for getting the Rogers Dynasonic in the "right area", which then allows the drummer to fine tune to taste. If you like, I can supply the link as it is hosted on the companion site to this one: "Vintage Drum Guide".

As an aside, eventually someone will suggest you use the Rythum Tech Tensioned Snare Frame, as it creates an adequate replacement for the Dynasonic...... save your money. It doesnt. It is a worthless expenditure of cash. Get the dynasonic frame, the puresound wires, and follow TommyP in his very well done "How to set up the Dynasonic" information sheet.
