Glitter or Sparkle? Last viewed: 6 hours ago

From section2

I ordered both glitter and sparkle when considering a rewrap project. To my eyes, there was a huge difference. The glass glitter wraps reflected much more light, and sparkled like mad. The sparkles were more subtle. In the end, it all comes down to what you like the most. Me, I think glass glitters totally outclass sparkles. But there are trade-offs: glitter wraps are thicker, more brittle, and harder to work with. They're also more expensive. I agree with the advice to order samples of both and see what you prefer. Enjoy!

Do you people not read all the post:confused:. I put two good examples up, especially the green sparkle and glitter, you can definitely see the difference.Cool1

That tone isn't necessary on this forum.

I do think that your green sparkle and green glitter examples show the difference CLEARLY. I used to think that I would prefer a glitter over a sparkle, due to the more "starry" appearance, but I've seen some glitter-wrapped drums that were almost blinding to look at under stage lights. I guess it all depends on the brightness of the spot lamps. I dunno. I could live with either.

It's funny to me that glitter wraps sparkle more, and sparkle wraps are made with a glitter...

I ordered samples from Jammin Sam's a while back. The samples were not marked as to what they were. I couldn't tell the difference between glitter and sparkle.

JRichard! Maybe time to visit the optometrist?! LoLoLoLo It's incredibly easy to see the difference!

I've been wrapping drums for decades now and always prefer a "glass glitter" over a "sparkle". However, it really comes down to not only personal preference, but what you're attempting to accomplish. If wrapping for authenticity, go with what the factory used. For instance, Ludwig used "sparkle" wraps, while Slingerland used a combination of glitters and sparkles. I had a beautiful Slingerland BR kit from 1975 that was factory wrapped in Red Sparkle, because they were out of glass glitter for a time.

Has has been noted, Rogers finishes were called Sparkles, but were actually Glass Glitters.

If you're wrapping for personal choice, by all means go with a glass glitter, as most, but not all, of them really pop under lights!

Both Jammin' Sam and Precision Drum sell some wonderful glitters that the other does not offer. So... choose wisely and enjoy!
