Frank Holton & Co was famous for their Brass instruments, (trombones, trumpets, french horn etc). but he also made percussion instruments for a few years in Chicago. There is very little information about his drums , except for a unique patented tuning system from 1908. If you can find another Holton drum, I'd like to see it. When I acquired this snare , I thought there was a Leedy connection.

The shell is 1/8" Walnut or Maple ?, w/ an outer veneer of Birdseye Maple. There are some brackets for a carrier & straps, so I believe this was used as a street drum.

I have run across quite a few obscure drums as of lately, not to sure why. I am trying to land a Wilson Bros catalog right now as well. Most recently found a 1909 W&A Perfection Carry-all trap set. It is just the snare and bass drums, but very cool.
