Frank Holton & Co was famous for their Brass instruments, (trombones, trumpets, french horn etc). but he also made percussion instruments for a few years in Chicago. There is very little information about his drums , except for a unique patented tuning system from 1908. If you can find another Holton drum, I'd like to see it. When I acquired this snare , I thought there was a Leedy connection.

Details of Frank Holton & Co. Drum. Rosewood hoop are metal clad to protect the wood.
Awesome drum, What is the shell wood ?
I really like that drum. Awesome score for you.
The shell is 1/8" Walnut or Maple ?, w/ an outer veneer of Birdseye Maple. There are some brackets for a carrier & straps, so I believe this was used as a street drum.
Thanks i is a great looking drum. Love this stuff.
Looks exactly like my 15x4 Lyon and Healy from around 1908! Very cool snare!

That is an amazing drum! I am really into the pre-1925 off brand stuff. Very nice! Bowing
Many thanks to all the above drummers who commented on this snare. I truly share your enthusiasm for early drums, & the period when the drum set was taking shape.

I have run across quite a few obscure drums as of lately, not to sure why. I am trying to land a Wilson Bros catalog right now as well. Most recently found a 1909 W&A Perfection Carry-all trap set. It is just the snare and bass drums, but very cool.
