Flange Hi-Hats Last viewed: 59 minutes ago

14" early 60's? very thin super cool. Bottom cymbal has slight edge flange and is stamped "flange hat" excellent condition. $199.

This is what the ad says. I have no idea what flange hats are, as I have never come across a pair before. Their is a pic and I can see a straight edge, flange and they look cleaned. So was hoping to get some thoughts on these hats.

I have a couple of sets of these ...a late '50's pair of 15"-ers... and a pair of Trans-stamp 14"-ers.

That's not a terrible price....maybe $165-75 is more appropriate. The ink stamp adds a nice touch to the value.

The top is a normal-profile hi-hat. The bottom is flanged just a bit; not very dramatically but nevertheless...kinda looks like the older Sabian Sound-Controls or current El Sabors....

Other interesting thing about 'em (at least the pairs I have) is that the weights of each are near identical....they differ by no more than 30g.

They are relatively rare...come up maybe once or twice a year on eFlay. Keep in mind, these are very Jazzy sorta hi-hats...the flange really softens the "chick" sound and sloshes/sizzles 'em up a bit more than usual....
