Early STACCATO Drums Last viewed: 4 hours ago

Just bought this 5 Piece Shell Pack of Early STACCATO Drums. They All have the First "Ayotte" Style Lugs that were designed and fabricated by Staccato. The Lugs were the predecessor to the current Ayotte lugs on Ayotte drums and Later Staccato drums. The Drums are in Stunning Condition for being one of the first kits Staccato made. The lugs All have a threaded hole on the side where a tiny nylon bead was inserted ,and a small allen head cap screw threaded into. This was an early Tune Lock system. The Cap screw pushed the nylon ball against the threads of the Tension Rods, hence Holding the Tuning of the Drum Head.Am in process of purchasing the Allen head cap screws and nylon beads to re install all of them...The last thing this kit was missing are the Ludwig Club Date spurs,The Original mounts are on the Bass Drum, just missing the Legs !....The STACCATO Snare is a RARE - 7" X 14" ...22" Bass Drum,10" & 12' mounted toms,& 16" floor tom.

Welcome

Those are very cool drums!! They look to be in decent condition...They should clean up nicely...That snare is rare...Most sets I`ve seen don`t have the original snare with them anymore...

Congrats on your acquisition!!

Cheers

Cool kit, welcome to the VDF. I believe there is a member here who used to work for Staccato.

Hello - And Thanks for the Welcoming !! ....I took the Snare drum to one of the Original Owners & Guy that Started STACCATO Drums.(The other Owner Pat Townsend in England Sadly Passed away several years ago).He was "Shocked" to see the snare, and the first thing he said was - Do you have any idea how Rare this snare is ?? ...and was stunned when i told him the Condition of the Kit and that All the Original Lugs were still on them, and functioning perfectly. He explained the Tune lock set up to me,and explained the lugs on these drums !...He said this Kit is Extremely Rare to have all 5 Pieces in Original/Excellent Condition. This Kit was Posted on KIJIJI / Hamilton Ont. for almost 2 weeks and i sent him an offer and was Shocked he accepted it !!

Very impressive engineering on the lugs.

I have always thought these were interesting.

See pic of another Staccato Snare.

Not mine. Pic from my Library.

Re : grantro - Hello - i may be Selling them shortly, after i'm done replacing the few missing parts. The Original Staccato Drum business owner told me last week what this Kit is worth.(The Price he put on them Shocked Me)He said finding one of his Earliest Kits,Basically Complete with the Matching Snare,is extremely Rare,Just finding one with the matching snare is unheard of. Unfortunately ,if/when i Sell these,i doubt anyone would want to Pay what this Kit is Worth. The Original Owner of Staccato has Never seen a Vintage Kit with the Original Matching Snare !!

Re - Green glass drums - The "Ayotte" Lugs on that snare are what evolved much later from the Lug Design on my drums. The Lugs on mine were the First Lugs they used

Great looking kit just love it. The last staccato kit i saw in the Uk had hayman lugs on it. Another great kit from the UK. I still have a full set of original Arbiter Autotunes. The 70's were a great time in the UK designing great futuristic drums. I think most drummers still like the traditional style of lots of lugs etc etc.
