You paid about market value for it. Since it was re-wrapped it devalues it somewhat. The main thing is that it is a 6-lug Pioneer model snare.....the Pioneer was basically a student model snare, so they were not worth as much as say an 8-lug jazz festival model or a super classic model. They do sound good though and are much better than any of today's student drums that are out there. So you did about average I'd say. Definately a good players drum. If it was in its original finish and in very good shape it would probably bring around $200-$250 depending on the finish, not much more than that to be honest.

Enjoy your find!

Hey,

Nice looking catch!!! Great finish. I just picked up a 6 lugger, too. It was a part of another deal. I'm excited about it. Let me know how it sounds. Again, congrats!!!

I bet it's a good solid snare drum...so...teh question can be generalized...is $175 a good price for a good vintage snare drum ?

The answer being, not a bad price, if all of the jhardware is original and the shell doesn't look like it's been messed with....

Sounds like a fair deal to me. Beautiful snare by the way I'm sure it sounds amazing.

As long as the wrap is nice and tight, a pro-quality job, I'd say it wasn't a bad deal, too. You didn't make out like a bandit, but it's money well spent.
