Early '50s Zildjian, and other cymbal values Last viewed: 53 minutes ago

A good friend of mine sent a bunch of his unused cymbals home with me this weekend and asked if I wanted any, and also if I would help him sell the rest. I'm trying to determine what would be reasonable asking prices for some of them. I tried looking at Ebay completed auctions and couldn't find any for the following cymbals.

The most interesting is an early '50s Zildjian with a trans logo. The diameter measures about 11 1/8" and it's in very nice condition. I posted a couple of pictures of it at this link:

Any ideas on the value or what to ask for it?

The other cymbals are mostly Sabian AAs, but they are older and the exact same models don't seem to be made any more. He has a couple of 13" AA Extra Thin Crashes, a set of 13" AA Rock Hats, and a couple of 8" AA Splashes. Would these more or less go for the same prices as any other Sabian AA of the same size, regardless of the model name?

Thanks.

Hi. I don't know why nobody responded to your post sooner. The trans-stamp splash, if in good shape, is worth about $100-125. The Sabian AA's if they are older (sometimes called the 'block-letter' or 'hollow logo' AA's) would be one of the early-run 80's Sabians...and they DO have a greater market value than say the one's which came in the '90's and up to today. But their logos would have to be the hollow-ink logos.

Thanks for the reply.

I've sold half of the Sabians for my friend on Ebay already. The rest of them, except for a 13" Extra Thin Crash are up there right now and I was just getting ready to put the old Zildjian on there for him. He's had the Zildjian for a long time and it was a favorite, but I guess it just doesn't suit his current needs. I've seen his collection of cymbals that he no longer uses and it boggles my mind.

I guess if it's allowed to post them I can.

Here's the link to the old Zildjian and you can get to the others by hitting the "see seller's other items" button at the link. I think I still have an old Sabian 13" Extra Thin Crash of his that I haven't listed yet. I like that cymbal but don't have any money. I'm not sure what the block letter or hollow logo Sabian emblems look like so maybe you guys can tell from the pictures.

Thanks for the help.

Those seem like fair prices. No teh Sabians aren't the first-run '80's AA's, they are a few years later, later '80s-early 90's. But good cymbals nonetheless.
