Early 1990s Slingerland drums Last viewed: 1 hour ago

Hello

I purchased a Slingerland drum set 18 years ago and was hoping to get more information on the history and any signifigance to my particular set.

I purchaed my set in 1991 from the late Bob Smith of Drum City of Ankeny Iowa. At the time I wanted to upgrade from my 5pc to a double bass set. I eneded up purchasing a 10 piece double bass Slingerland from what I believe to be the "Artist Custom Line" that was made in Taiwan by Gretch. The entire kit includes: 2 -24" bass drums, 14" chrome snare, 8,10,12,13,14,15" toms, and 16" floor toms.

The story of this set was this: this particular set was used as a show model for trade shows throughout the country. These shows would show off manufacturer's newest products. After doing this circuit for some amount of time, the set was put away in a warehouse to be sold. Bob Smith knew who had it and purchased it to turn around and sell to me. I believe it was manufactured in 1989 because all badges start with 89 (896734, 896440,etc)

I still play this set to this day and people are always impressed by how it looks and sounds. I would appreciate any further information you may be able to share on my set. I have photos but I am having trouble attaching them, I may need to email them direct. Thank you

Welcome Bruno. Your slingerland Drums are not considered Vintage so you may not get any replies from the guys here. Any Slingerland drums made in the Chicago Niles plant and before are what the guys here consider vintage. I own a set of spirit drums from that same era. I like them alot and people have commented to me on how good they sound, but they don't have much value as far as vintage drums go. here are the serial numbers from my set. I paid $300 for it last year from a music-go-round. . . .James
