Is this an OK deal? Big R dyna without snare frame for $150? 70s.

If the Lugs are original and not swapped with something else like Pearl (yes I owned one that was like this before restoration) and the shell is in good shape, no cracks or dents and the chrome is good and if the correct throw off is still there, and if it has the correct Rogers hoops, especially the bottom special Dynasonic one, then YES it is a good deal. 70's frames can be had easily on Ebay from a guy that sells them new, and IIRC they come with the snare adjuster screw too. I think they were about $85, but worth every penny. Then just get the Puresound Dynasonic snare wires and you're done. I wish I had mine back, great sounding snare.

I'd offer $100 and see where it goes. The bottom rims can be had but aren't cheap. The CBS era ones are cheaper than the earlier ones, but still not cheap.

I have decided not to buy this drum. To much stuff to track down and the parts are too spendy. I have lots of snares. I can wait. Thanks for the input.

Hey Tom,

I got lucky at a swap meet and found mine for $80.00, with all the right parts. As of last count, I have 4 and they are worth the money up to $200.00 for the Big R IMHO, although you can find them cheaper. Also, PM me if you're interested in me sending you some BBQ Sauce. As long as it's legal, I'll send you some. I made a batch a few weeks ago, you pay the postage and it's yours.

Here are the questions I would ask. Since, I see the following problems with the picture.

1. The Rogers Dynasonic Logo on Oval Badge drums was always one panel counterclockwise from the throw off.... that would be looking down on the drum from above, one panel to the left of the throw with the dampener on the right of the throw in the first panel, and on Big R drums, on the second panel to the RIGHT of the throw, with the dampener being on the first panel to the right of the throw. The drum pictured.......shows the gromet hole and therefore badge... two panels to the left of the throwoff.

2. Badge information, since, as I cannot see the protrusion of screws from the oval badge in the pic...I need to assume this is a Big R drum.

3. If no badge is present, and there are no badge screw holes left and right of the grommet hole, this is a big R drum, and, this drum is assembled upside down. It appears the spelling on items in the background is correct, so I do not believe the pic is flipped.

Now if the drum is assembled correctly, it is a one off, factory screw up, and could someday be more valuable because of it.

My guess is the drum is assembled upside down, due to the proximity of the butt screws with the top head.

The ad states big R badge missing.

The drum is assembled upside down. Good move on not buying, no telling what else is messed up about it.
