DW is Vintage? Last viewed: 12 hours ago

How long has DW been producing drums? It seems they must have started in business 40 years ago. Does anyone have a vintage DW set? Man am I getting old!

New DW Drum Workshop 40th Anniversary Jazz Drum Set 12,14,18, 1 in the World

First full drum sets could be ordered in the early 80's. But their drum stool and pedals pre-date that.

I recall the pedals being around for quite a while, but I'm amazed any sets go back that far. Sure seems like those must be classics already. Has anybody thought that a line was drawn as to what is vintage and what doesn't qualify? Even 30 years plus seems quite vintage. I think I'll start looking before they reach the prices of the Gretsch and Camco lines did.

Here's a very early DW snare drum with still lots of Camco hardware on it.

Serial number is 100164 or the 164th from the first year of production.

Early 80's I was told.

The very early kits are few and far between. They were made to order only through DW hardware dealers. The good news is their collectability value is low.

Stedi wrote an article about their connection to Camco, check it out!
