I recently purchased a floor tom off Ebay wich the guy said was a 1959 red sparkle 16". After buying it another ebay member informed me that it may have been mis-represented, because among a few other things it has only 7 lugs and straight legs. He said he thought it may be a pearl japanese floor tom. So to help conclude all this does any one know if a 1959 Slingerland floor tom ever had 7 lugs? Thanks

I've never seen that, but I have seen import drums with 7 lugs. Post some other pictures...
That drum looks very much like a Japanese import with Slingerland style lugs.Best way to confirm if its a Slingerland or a knock off is to see how the lugs are mounted inside the shell. If you can take the lug screw out with a flat head or philips head...its a knock off.If you need a socket wrench then those are real Slingerland lugs. Other ways is to see if you can't find a stamp date ( as Japanese imports never had them ) and see what the wood looks like. But judging from the outside and what the leg mounts look like...I'm taking my best guess that its an import.

That's an import, knock-off...
OH MY GOD!!!!!!!! That drum is being re-sold on ebay and the seller still cliams the drum is a Slingerland. I sent him a message saying that its not.I wasn't even aware that I was part of you saying no sale since it was false advertising.lol Kinda funny that I was going to make a new post based upon this drum in question. Here is the new auction.
