That's an early Z series cymbal, hardly a cheap model. Although it is a very heavy cymbal, there were made with different stamp hammerings. They also had a brilliant finish. Dyno Beats were the first type of hi hats to utilize the star pattern hammering. Best rock hats I ever heard were the early K/Z's (Dyno Beats) Crisp like a potato chip and cutting..
Craiglist seller claims cymbal is rare ?? Last viewed: 2 hours ago
I don't think the "star" cymbal is a cheap import. I believe that the very first Z Customs had that star-hammering on 'em. That's what it looks like to me.....an early Z Custom. Look at the cymbal shape, bell size, etc...
Hmm...sorry about that. There's a local shop here that imports cymbals that look EXACTLY LIKE THAT, and they are super cheap and they sound really pingy, and they look EXACTLY LIKE THAT. I'm not familiar with early Z Customs at all. My mistake, 'cause the cheap import "star" cymbals I'm thinking of look EXACTLY LIKE THAT!
1965 Ludwig Hollywood
1970 Ludwig Jazzette
The types of cymbals escapes me, but there was 3 patterns for stamping. The star, the hexagon and I think a small circle (1/8 to 1/4") Like I said in a earlier post, they were all very heavy like you also said caddywumpus. I believe they were all a brilliant finish. I also think there predecessors were the "Impulse" series, because the Impulse cymbals were heavy and loud. Same type of cymbal, just unfinished and regular stamp.

I have seen those, yes. Sam Adato's Drum Shop here in town has one right now....it's a friggin' DOG.
Looks like NS12 alloy, so it seems to have been made in Germany/Switzerland...although it isn't stamped Paiste.
My hubcap sounds better....
But this one's definitely a Z....
