Copper-plated Slingy Parts Last viewed: 3 minutes ago

Loading...

Greetings Dr.,

I just came across a handful of 80's Slingy snare bits which included components in chrome, brass or gold plating and a reddish copper plating. The bits included small riveted levers for the back of a strainer assembly, a copper TDR faceplate (which looks great) and some other screws and washers. NOS.

I could post pics.

Was copper offered as a custom order, or did Slingy have a line of colored hardware besides the Black Gold? It is very striking indeed.

thanks!

Yes indeed. During 1983 - 1984, with carryover into 1985 - 1986, Slingerland officially offered hardware in chrome or brass plate. Unofficially, it also plated copper at customer request.

In truth, Slingerland's famous "triple chrome plating" was actually a layered sequence of first copper, then nickel, then either brass or chrome plating. It was easy to leave the last coat copper.

Not too many copper kits and drums were made, so your NOS copper parts are quite rare. Copper plating often shows up on 1983 - 1984 Niles drums finished in Black Gloss. They are quite striking.
