Camco project from hell (maybe) Last viewed: 50 minutes ago

Thanks for the tip. Am actually trying to cajole DW here into letting me have some stuff direct from them. Let's see how I go.

Picked up the shells yesterday and, apart from being either covered on the outside with white paint or being half sanded back, the bearing edges and interiors are in excellent shape. Looks like it has had swivo tom mount and bass drum mounted l-stand as well. Difficult to know if these were factory installed but these have been tough on the insides where they mounted no matter what. Have never had swivo stuff so don't know if this is usual. So if anyone has swivo bass drum and tom plates and one of those cymbal arm mounts, please let me know

Finish under the white paint looks like the walnut finish. I'm going to see if I can sand the stain back to the original maple to match my other kits - if that doesn't work I guess I'll try and match the original walnut stain. And failing that I guess it's going to be a sparkle (I just got an old dealer sample set so I can try and match as exactly as possible as you can in this day and age). There's talk of a burgundy sparkle re-issue, right?

Cheers,

David

Just got a bass drum pedal actually but thanks for offering (13 bucks). I'd love to know about that Camco kit for 600 bucks though. If it's an LA, it's possible (but still very cheap) but if it's an Oaklawn, go back and buy it immediately, then flip it for a whole lot more on ebay.

It was too long ago, I wasn't n my home town either. As of the kit it's self I don't remember if it was oaklawn or an LA. I could have made a good profit off of it but I didn't pull the trigger because I was short on cash.

Actually just saw a huge 20" Camco Chanute floor tom (never seen one of those before) in a walnut finish at the Hollywood Pro Drum Shop. No internal damper and no legs - going for around 650USD.

But I did actually pick up a whole set of 16 bass drum t-rods and claws (the ones DW had on the Buddy Rich tribute kits) and a handful of bass drum lugs for this project, which was a stroke of (expensive) luck.

I also had confirmed that the tom and bass drum mounts were swivos - but not factory and so bizarrely placed that I will be filling the holes instead of the original plan of just keeping the plates.

The bass drum cymbal mount seems (also bizarrely) to have been an old Slingerland so I think I'll skip that option and fill it as well. Just to go through this again - the kit originally had a virgin bass drum and rack tom which someone then drilled to put on baldly placed swivo and Slingerland stuff.

Looking more and more like a wrap and not a lacquer....
