Camco Los Angeles Last viewed: 3 hours ago

They are the same lugs on your kit as mine, but definitely different shells...Interesting how industry and take-overs work. If I rememvber correctly, Camco used to advertise Rogers' parts at one time?

You're going to sell what???...when pigs fly maybe LoLoLoLo

Kelly, if your shells are relatively thin dimension...they are not Swingstar shells. Early Tama Swingstar shells were medium-thickness 5 or 6-ply luan..yup, the early ones. Also the wood on yours looks much much nicer.

Luan is a type of mahogany wood that was very prevelant with import kits.

Its better to have people think you're an idiot, than to open your mouth and prove them wrong, unless you doubt yourself then speak away....

backbeatkeeper,

I'm pretty sure it's not luan. Looks like a nice 5-6 ply maple shell.Yes Sir

Here's the restored kit all set.

Hard to believe these are 30 years old. They are Camco/Tama, 7 ply maple. Nice warm tone... Rather than plug the holes on the 18" I put the leg holders back on and used one for a cymbal arm holder. The snare is a 14 X 3 Dixon piccolo that has ""DW" lugs.

I have never been a particular fan of natural finishes, but I gotta say, with that hardware, etc...that's one sexy lookin' kit !

I like the cymbal arm on the bass also...always a favorite detail of mine !

Excellent job !Walking

Thanks Jaye!

Here is a pic of the kit in jazz configuration, which is how I set up. The

13" tom is harder to tune thatn the 12 anyway...Anyone else feel that way about 12 versus 13 inch toms??

What did you use to get that glossy finish? They look great.

Thanks Lucky.

Actually it was a lot of elbow grease. It's the origianl finish you see there. Took about a day to scrub all the lugs and shine up the finish.

could not be more impressed with these shells. Someone said they may have been '78 or '79 Swingstar shells in natural maple because of the 8" depth of the rack toms. I found a '79 Camco ad with Elvin Jones playing this "Natural Maple" kit. Take a look...Says "Camco, the Jazz Kit"
