Before you all fillet me, this thread is more or less for posterity than argument. For better or worse, these are a part of a lot 60s and 70s beginners. I have acquired a pair of matched hi-hats with my last purchase and they actually sound pretty good. They have been well played through the years, and the former owner recorded with them quite a bit. They even sound OK as crashes, especially the bottom. It has a nice clear ring and a good bell as well. As the set, they have a great ching and clap nicely.

It's funny, the old Cambers were mostly brass...I had a 16" crash come thru here a while back, a Crystal Crash...and it was certainly brass (or if not.... it was a bronze with some zinc in the alloy for sure).

It actually sounded pretty good....I mean...yeah, pretty good.

So your report doesn't surprise me all that much. Kinda cool hammering pattern too....[/COLOR]

Let me ask Ever Ring if he would like to use them first. I know have them on the other thread, but I think I will let him have first shot.

And the hammering and lathe work are really something. I have never seen the like of the handy work of these.

I have a Camber II thin crash that I love... It actually makes a great second ride as well as a crash... It has a very "sweet" sound... I have no idea how old it is and can't seem to find any info on it... Any info would be greatly appreciated...

There is a 20 and a pr of crystal hats up here for 150 bucks,practically NOS...Are they worth it??

I have no what that series cost originally,but if they sound great to you ,or they are perfectly suited for a gig you are doing,then yes,but seeing as how they probably were not that expensive to start with and that resale on them is not high on the used or collectors market,I think around a hundred dollars or a little under is much more realalistic,imo
