Bend a Pang to a be like a regular cymbal???? Last viewed: 5 hours ago

Hello

I have a 1970's (?) Zildjian 20" pang cymbal that has a beautiful ride ping to it but a horrible crash and wash. I was thinking that if I could do something to change the shape like flatten the edge back out that maybe it would sound better as a crash also. Has anyone ever tried something like this???

Please let me know what you think and if you have any suggestions, how to do this. Stand on the edge? hammer the edge? any videos on this???

thanks again for your input and take care

T

Re-engineering a cymbal is never a good idea. You'll end up with a cymbal that's no good as either a pang or a crash. And then after that your newly created "good for nothing" cymbal has little chance of selling, except as a piece of scrap metal.

Exactly, the only thing you could do if you alter it, is use it as a stacker/ effect cymbal but that is pretty boring IMHO. Good luck.

Keep fixing them up...

I thought that cymbal sounded very nice....not the greatest recording of it...but cymbals are usually very hard to record.

Hey, have you guys heard the lastest? Since Zildjian's has been shut down, only Paul Francis has remained at the foundry and he's been burning the midnight oil while tirelessly working on new R&D projects; all in preparation for when this COVID thing blows over and regular production opens back up again. And he's just invented a brand new cymbal line! In fact it was just today; and I got the inside skinny on it.

It's going to be called the "Flat-Earth" ride.

Coming to a music store near you as soon as this virus thing goes away.

Sounds cool doesn't it?
