Aynsley Dunbar drum solo from 1978 Last viewed: 18 minutes ago
So many memories:
1) One of the best concerts I ever saw was Journey supported by Montrose (with Steve Smith) and Van Halen in late 1977 (fairly certain). Van Halen stole the show, which isn't to say that the other bands weren't any good.
2) One of my favorite albums is Zappa and the Mothers "Live at Fillmore East, June 1971." Aynsley is layin' it down. R-rated, but excellent.
3) Aynsley was a guest at a wedding banquet I performed at a few years ago in Santa Barbara. The hosts persuaded him to sit in. He was a little loud for the room, but he did no damage because he has good technique. It was a pleasure to watch him up close.

To me it's a close tie as to who the best Journey drummer was, Aynsley or Steve. Don't know much about Prairie Prince though.
Man Aynsley is one of my favorites! His work on the first three Journey albums and and his stuff with Zappa was just awesome

Sailing2Deen Castronova is pretty solid now too. He is also an excellent singer of the Journey catalog. I like his whole stage presence and delivery.

The cool thing in those days was real double bass drums they sound so good compared to a double pedal on one base drum and Aynsley always used them well..
