Avedis Zildjian HiHats on ebay Last viewed: 1 hour ago

Hey guys, i'm new on here so first want to say hi to you all on Vintage Drums. Excited

Have found a set of Avedis Zildjian (made in USA) HiHats on ebay, item # 260474153275. they look to be in good condition but i'm unsure of the size; have asked the seller but have yet to receive a reply.

By researching on the forum i think they may be 60's issue but am not sure...can someone please confirm?

How much should i expect to pay for these? I'm happy to pay a fair price but don't want to overspend.....(so who does)??

cheers :)

Ironically, I believe EBAY auctions are the answer to your question. Most people who are going to give you an estimate will have already seen these sell on there and that would be the number they give you.

Furthermore, I don't believe you can get a good deal on EBAY for cymbals and will only win them by overspending a bit. The pro's "in the know" (I am NOT In this group by the way) will NOT allow those cymbals to go for a bargain on EBAY. They will lock em up. If you want them, you will have to spend a hair more than their market value I believe. If you win them on EBAY, subtract five percent of what you paid and this will probably be their market value!!

You will only get a "bargain" buying off of a private party. EBAY, Craig's List, Goodwill, and many other public auction houses are covered daily many people from many different places that have the resources to buy this stuff up at will, and they do just that.

Hopefully this doesn't ruin your excitement over those cymbals!! I have been trying to buy a certain item on there and have had NO luck. The item sits stagnate for days then the flurry of activity happens on the last hours. LOL

I say don't feed the bears and keep looking in your local penny sheets and stuff like that. Garage sales, etc. I truly believe EBAY is mostly for suckers.

Just my humble opinion.

have a wonderful evening.

I just looked at the link to EBAY and I have the exact same hi hats. Mine are 14" so take that as a meaningless attempt at nailing them down!!!

Haha...thanks Drumhack.

I agree with what you say about ebay...it can be risky. Unfortunately i live in little Tasmania so second hand gear is very rare, if i have to pay a little more i dont mind.

thanks muchly for your feedback! The Band

Sorry bro. I got my entire drum collection (1 kit with the cymbals) from my father when he passed away. I can remember those things from when I was a tiny little tot. I would probably have to be living in a tent or driving a Yugo before I ever thought of selling any of that stuff!!! LoLoLoLo

You got the right idea though. You will get a far superior price by asking around like that than you would bidding. The collectors CANNOT allow the world to see the same items they have go for low prices on ebay or that makes their collection worth what? You get my drift? LOL

The diamond industry does the same thing so it is not below board. Just controlling the market to keep the prices at a respectable level. Drumaholic says he knows someone with the mother lode of Zildjan's. I believe him. And the guy who has the mother lode doesn't let too many of his get away from him. The ones he has make the hi hats we are talking about look like freaking frying pan lids too.

Good luck with your quest and by all means try the ebay auction for those cymbals. I will bet that there is a at least one bidder who has their max bid set at or near the "market value" though.

have a wonderful evening

Funny conversation you blokes have going. ;)

If you don't mid, I am gonna disagree. Old A's are so ubiquitous, they are almost ALWAYS a good deal whether on eFlay or Craigslist.

There were just so many of 'em made...and up until the mid-70's, their quality was always very good.

So, whenever in doubt, you can't beat an old set of A 'hats, or a ride, or a crash...via one of those venues.

Like I said, just the fact that they are everywhere always keeps the prices low.

The only Avedises which will get into serious bid wars are the ones which are '50's and older.

But a solid '60's or even early '70's Avedis is always gonna be a good deal...and as long as their weights aren't very heavy, there is a 99% chance you will end up with a very good cymbal.....

Hey thanks guys.

plenty of food for thought there. i will be keeping a close eye on them over the next few days. from what u both say it sounds like they are a nice cymbal and i do like they are the same vintage as me Clapping Happy2

i have an idea what i'm willing to pay for them so will see how it goes.

Cheers!!

You would be wise to put more of a weight on Jaye's advice. I am a novice as far as anything drums goes.

My comments about ebay were not really just about drums. Anything collectable has it's fanatics doing their daily ebay scans to see what is out there and acting accordingly. People have schills "bid" up items to max em out for the most profit.

My point was human to human transactions, without the world-wide-web middleman, are the way to go everytime and twice on Sunday as far as I am concerned.

Hey Jaye, is Scoma's seafood restaraunt still on the wharf out there? I worked in Hunter's Point seven years ago or so (when they were building the new baseball stadium on the Embarcadero) and still remember the Fisherman's Spaghetti I got at that place. Muy Bueno y muy grande!!!!

I know what you're saying about them always being a good deal.

I'd give different chances though. Those cymbals varied immensely. Lots of the crashes and hi hats seem good. I'd say 1/3 of the crashes and maybe 1/4 the hihats were useable, but only one in a blue moon of the rides. My experience with AZ rides is that very few were any good.

I tried at least 40 rides at the AZCO factory in the 70's and none were even remotely useable. So I'd say maybe 1 in 50 AZ rides is any good, most are horrid.

When I was on the road in the 70's we'd go to every music store in every town, and it seemed like you could count on none of the AZ rides being any good in the stores I went to.
