Are these Slingerlands actually rare Last viewed: 9 hours ago

That is true tubelugs, I wonder why that is? I guess typically we look for more bottom end in floor tom than we would in a rack tom?

Do you think it is because that's what the drum companies have pushed on us? They determined the sizes they sold. Look at the Sonor signature line. Huge drums, square toms, floor toms deeper than the diameter, deep bass drums (for the production period). Those things are highly collectible.

As far as rack toms, I think people tend to think its easier to play shallow toms as you can mount them lower...

Along the floor tom/square thing, why is it only the 16 & 14? Why are most 18's & 20's 2 inches shallower than the diameter? Hmmmm

Well....my Ludwigs from the 80's are power toms and they aren't hard to tune in the slightest, and they do sound great as well. They are a little less punchy than standard depths but they are louder. Which was the point....volume was the idea with power toms, hence the power in the term power toms......

+1 Mine sound great also. In fact, a couple of my friends like the way they sound so much that they have decided to put together older 6-ply kits. One will have double 32's Eye Ball

Unless they're floor toms, in which case everyone seems to think they sound just fine Hmmmm

12x16's sound just as good big and deep as 16x16's actually - it's just the conventional aesthetics of it. Anyway back OT - yecccch - NOT a cool set of Slingys at all Toilet

I never said otherwise. I said that many, many people buy and play floor toms in square dimensions, without complaining that they sound bad or are hard to tune.

Well, well, well....harrrrumph !

;)

I was actually agreeing with your initial comment.....as you had pointed out an interesting sorta contradiction folks have about tom depths....i.e. if square rack toms are considered unnecessary or less desireable (and these days the market pendulum has swung towards that asessment) , then why are square floor toms considered so desirable ?

It was just an interesting point I hadn't thought about before.
