Another Craigslist seller claiming their drums are rare.

So are they? Let the drum guru's be the judge.

Yuck square toms, I don't know anything about the magnum series, but regardless of how rare they may or may not be, those sizes and that finish are not exactly desireable.

Do you mean square toms are ugly or acoustically don't sound good based on the length and diameter being the same.

Well, personally I don't like either, the look, or the sound. They do have their fans though. Power toms were really popular in the 80s in rock and hair metal bands. They have a huge sound with tons of resonance. They can be tough to tune, and you don't get a lot of room to play around with the setup. They are like concert toms, some people love them, but the majority of restorers/collectors just pass when they see those sizes.

The only sling snares bringing good coin are radio kings and the original brass "black beauty".They have done some unusual snare like this 12 lug and 12 lug batter with an 8 lud reso, but rare does'nt always equate to valuable, generally 115.00 a drum for american made drums would be a fair deal but with those sizes and condition,I doubt they will bring 700.00.I knew someone that had a similar kit in great condition, they sounded good, deep and powerful.400.00 would be ok for a players/practice kit, another option if you got them really cheap would be a project kit,Like cutting the 10 12 13 down to standard or fast sizes and keeping the 15 and 18 as floor toms and maybe re wrapping/refinishing.

I doubt he would go that low because he thinks he has a real gem. I would rather find an older set for my first refurbish job.

Thanks for the replies.

Jazz sizes are best for resale, 18" or 20" kick, 12", and 14x14 or 16x16 will bring in the most money as far as vintage drums go. If you like the sound of power toms, by all means get what you like, but you will end up spending more on restoration than you will get out of your return.

I really don't care about power toms. They are to big and hard to adjust. Someday I might find something rare/valuable and post it here and it actually is rare/valuable. At that point I will get serious about the purchase. I am new to the vintage drum world so I must question everything at this point.

Thanks again.

We are fortunate to have such a great wealth of knowledge on this site Clapping Happy2. Its always nice to get a second, or third opinion about something you aren't fully knowledgable about.

Unless they're floor toms, in which case everyone seems to think they sound just fine.

Hmmmm
