Anybody re-lathed their old K's Last viewed: 1 hour ago

Is your rant over? Got it all outcha' system? Feel better now? Your reply borders on nonsensical. It's barely readable.

You completely misunderstood me. You can get the same trashy, dark style cymbals today that you got from old K's years ago. And it has nothing to do with prejudice. Prejudice of what and whom? The Turks? Please, give me a fu***** break.

I don't understand why some drummers revere these old K's and pay ridiculous sums of money for them. That's the crux of my argument. I have played old K's. I have never played one that made me sit up and take notice. We had an old K ride in my high school drum section. It was OK at best.

So, go fight with someone else, and if you're that worked up about this subject and don't like what I say, just put me on your Ignore List. That's where you're headed right now; on mine.

Again for the ignorant of pie making

the metallurgy is a science

It takes decades for the molecules of a new pie to relax and open up to its full potential ,

That’s why the old A’s and K’s are worth the wait

On the other side if it’s not broke don’t fix it

once the brass ceases to glitter, and the drum looses its luster, and the stage remains dark, all you have left is the timbre of family.

"why at all bother with 1960s MIJ drums when you can get new 2020 MyIdentity, Roadshow and GigMaker sets"

FYI: It takes 6 months or maybe a year max to properly age a cymbal. After that there's no sound change.

And the bronze does not "relax" during this process; the crystal structure in fact hardens and the result is that the cymbal stiffens.

This info is not only for you but also for anyone else who comes under the category of: "the ignorant of pie making".

I couldn't bring myself to re-lathe an old K, even if it sounded terrible. In my opinion, old K's are of historical significance and there are only a finite number of them.

I hear you. However, I view them a lot like I view classic cars.

For example, if I got my hands on a 1965 K-code 2+2 fastback Mustang with a four speed, GT package, pony interior, and styled steel wheels, I wouldn't change a thing. Not many of those to be had.

However, if I had a 1966 Mustang coupe that started life with a straight six, an automatic, standard interior, and hubcaps, I'd change damn near everything. Ford made tons of those.

I wouldn't mess around with Old Stamp K's, or even New Stamps that are within a weight range that dudes want. There aren't that many out there.

But, medium or medium-heavy heavy New Stamps? The factory made bunches of those, and they aren't what most dudes are really after, so I'd be willing to slap those babies on one of my lathes and go to town.

HelloI am would like to know if anyone has had any luck re-lathing an old K Zildjian Istanbul. There seems to be many out there that are overweight for a fair price and one could purchase and re-lathe them if there has been any success at it. Please let me know and thanks T

Overweight ? Old K's strike another old K, if you put one on a drum kit that was not created yet when it was made, well it wont quite fit in because you hit it with wood and not Bronze. So the poor thing get's put on a lathe by fools for show reasons totally unaware that it's not meant to be.

It's thick because if they were thin clapper's, you would have a China in only a few concerts.

It`s a drum,.....Hit It !!
