Hi all,I've noticed some off you have experience with Amedia cymbals!!Just wanna say, these are not your typical "made-in-turkey-mass-production"cymbals :pI visited the Amedia workshop in Istanbul last summer, and it was awesome!!They have more than 27 series but none off them are cheap, stamped cymbals! They do all have their own character and they are all hand hammered by well-trained(,friendly and proud :p) cymbalsmiths. If you're looking for cymbals made by old tradition, Amedia is the place to go!I'm not associated with Amedia in any way (altough i wouldn't mind an endorsmentship:p), i'm just telling this because the visit to the workshop left me flabbergasted and i have tons of respect for the dedicated people that create these wonderfull cymbals!!An old K can't be reproduced, but there are still cymbals made with the same passion!!Spread the word... ;)Dennis(sorry if this looks to much like advertisement or mellow bull**** lol)
Supra D! Mickey is, without a doubt, one one the finest percussionists of the last 50 years! I am a fan! And both of his parents were world class, World's Fair winners as well. Most people don't know it.
I have a pretty wide collection of cymbals - so have a good basis for comparison I think- about a year ago I encountered Amedia cymbals at ACT pro shop here in Osaka- I was completely knocked out by their smoothness and complexity. I am moving away from the thin, dark and trashy sound of most Istanbul Agops- that sound is just not versatile enough for my playing. So now I have a set of Amedia classic 14 hats, Amedia Legend 16" and an Amedia Classic 20" jazz ride- with this grouping I also use an Istanbul Mehmet 21" Legend. I like the slightly more rigid feel and slightly brighter tones I am getting from them. I have plenty of trashy cymbals- like an Istanbul Agop 20" Azure, an Agop 20" Trash hit, an old Meinl Dragon 20", a 20" Sabian Raw Ride- to give some examples- So just to report that I find the Amedia Classic series versatile and smooth- I added in a Turkish brand Millenium series 16" recently for when I wanted 2 crashes- it pairs up nicely.
Test drive Amedia 22" - 2190g. Nice stick definition and balance!
Kevin is a really cool dude! Much appreciated!!

Hi Osakabop,
As you pointed out, mine is also smoothness and complexity. Not too much metallic meat, trashy, smoky and dark. Everything is moderately combined and crashable well. However, that is too fresh, so the sounds are loud to my ears. As a result, the stick articulation is buried. Therefore, I spread olive oil with top and bottom side and taped some spots. Now, the sounds has settled. The sound has still grown.
As for the sound file, Kevin has a good one, that is an another thinner Vintage 22" 2200g(10g difference from mine) created by Amedia. To my ears, that is mostly same with mine and nice sample. So, I hope he would post it here. Otherwise, I'll make it when I drop at my basement in this weekend.
Thanks to Kevin, Monēta is not at problem. Just same price at the store.
Hi Yoshi,
Great review on the cymbal! If someone can tell me how to post a sound file on here, I will post it for sure! Or, I am happy to email it to anyone.
The normal Amedia Vintage series cymbals weigh much more, around 2500-2800 grams (Yoshi can correct me if I am mistaken). I only know of 2 other lighter weight Vintage made, 1 is in a collector's hands (maybe a member here?), the other was the talk of the NAMM show last week. Amedia has some bronze pounding to do for sure!
Not to be too much of a salesman on this site, but if anyone does have any questions or interest in getting an Amedia product, I am happy to help. Amedia didn't charge anything extra for the 'special order'. Shipped it direct too, once it came in to the states.
Anyway, thanks again Yoshi!
