Those are sweet. Where are they located, and how much is the asking price? That might make sense for someone looking for a really cool gigging kit. Do you know the shell layup?

Very sweet for sure. They are located at Bentley's Drum Shop in Fresno, CA. The asking price escapes me at the moment. Dana has them there on consignment.

I'm afraid I don't know the shell layup, other than the shells looked pretty thick and there were no re-rings. Also, there was the silver paint on the shell interiors.

If anybody is ever in the Central Valley (San Joaquin Valley of CA), it is definitely worth it to check out Bentley's in person. It is one of the finest drum shops I've ever been to, and Dana Bentley is total class and a gentleman to deal with. He's also totally set up for worldwide shipping, so here's the link to his website if anybody wants to call him up about that kit or for anything else. Bentley's Drum Shop

Here's another set he has there that I know someone here would totally dig...

... All they need is the right head selection to be great sounding tubs. For me, I am finding that the thin 3 and 9 ply compressed shells perform best with single ply coated heads and the thick 6 like a 2 ply of any description, likely everyones fave, the pinstripe, but don't limit yourself. A really good drum shop should have a complete round of every head set for "display" purposes. In other words, they should be ready to allow people to bring in their kit and be ready for sound checks. Too bad they don't offer this service as it would make for much more loyal customers. Maybe the manufacturers should be brow-beat into doing this for some of the bigger guys at first, then extending the offer down the line so people can get what they NEED, not what the big suited guys want to sell.Just my 2 pennies.....

I am with you 10,000%, though you would have a LOT of trouble convincing shoppes and manufacturers to do that, with both the inventory and time consumption. Maybe with a "platinum"-type dealer, this could be done. But then you have the problem of what to do when someone beats the heads into unusable bits of plastic.

Maybe a good solution would be to offer this service for $25 with some of the money going towards the purchase of new heads. If the customer buys the heads they try, then they could receive a discount and the money would go towards the demo heads. You could even welcome "the shop at bricks and mortar, buy on the internet" customers and possibly get them to actually buy something.

Yeah- I'm THAT guy!!!

Hi Folks

Yep, those are both mine. The gray Royal Star's and the Pearl's. They are on consignment at Dana's shop. And yep, Mikey, you made that kit with your ability to supply these oddball parts. The blue Crest kit will be there soon as well, again thanks to Mikey's amazing ability to supply weird parts.

Also, I must admit, Dana Bentley is indeed a gentleman and possesses a font of wisdom and knowledge about vintage drums. He also has one of the best drum shops I've ever seen.

Just down the road in Bakersfield.

Man, you have some amazing drum settage. Those Camco's are almost too much to take, though.

Cheers,

Ryan

Drum settage! lol

Funny about the Camco's... The guitarist I've known and played with for about forty plus years just asked me to bring them up to the studio. It seems he's written some song that requires thundering herd percussion. Which is what those Camco's are made for.

Next time you are up this way, holler. We can meet at Bentley's and drive him nuts. Laughing H

PM me if you want.
