It's a middlin' price for the Slingys because: there's no snare drum (I know exactly the kit you speak of, it came equipped with a COS snare drum originally)...the color is very typical...and they are concert toms.

If seller is open to an offer, I'd offer $375 ....assuming all of the original tom mount, bass spurs, and FT leg mount hardware is intact and operable. If he drives a hard bargain....$400 wouldn't be out of the question if they ARE really in fine shape. You can always pick up a decent metal Slingy snare on eFlay for well under $100, to round out the kit....

Question then would be, are you cool with a concert tom setup ? They are out of vogue, have been for a while. Some folks don't dig the sound of 'em anymore...

But Devil's Advocate would say that, again if the kit is in fine shape...there aren't a whole lotta those '70's Slingy concert tom kits which are in fine shape any longer....so.....

The Royces...need more info...condition, finish (gloss black, black sparkle, black pearl ?), what do the badges look like ? How many pcs ?

Royce was a typical 60's Japanese stencil, so that vintage is as good as any other '60's stencil....but in the '70's they got really, really janky.

jaye

i was deffinatly thinkin about the slingerlands. 6 months ago i was looking into buying it and the guy said hed hold it for me till i got more money. i dont know how open he is to offers but i will try to haggle him down. If they are in pretty good shape i dont think the concert style toms will bother me too much. im gonna get ahold of him and set up a time to look at them and make a choice from there.

As for the royce... they are just plain black and its two high toms and a floor tom and bass. theres a pic but i have no clue how to upload pics on to this thing. i asked what his ball park range was for it and he said 120-125. idk about this one if only i could figure out how to load up the pic.

Well, again, if the Slingys are in good shape, then his asking price isn't terrible...just not a particular 'great deal' for you. But, not a terribly unfair asking price, either.

To upload a pic, go to post a reply...below the message window where you type in the reply, look for the 'manage attachments" button. Hit it, and you can upload a pic from your computer.

If you get a message saying "filesize too big", go to a resizing site such as

http://resizr.lord-lance.com/

...and size it down to image width of 500 or 600 (not 200 as the homepage default shows), then re-upload the smaller image file here and it'll work...

If the Royces aren't the janky '70's-80's versions, then that price is hella good. But, keep in mind that the Slingy is gonna be the better drum set, by a significant margin. So the Q becomes are you willing (and able) to pay the extra $250-75 for the upgrade in quality. Again, you can pick up a nice '70's Slingy metal snare for around $75+ so you'd have a nice kit. For the Royce, you could get pretty much any snare; a Japanese vintage for about $50-60 or even just an almost-new workhorse Pearl, Mapex, or such for a little more, probably.

Hey Kid,

If you are looking for a fun vintage kit for not much dough, people on this forum have 'em. Just ask. There are several of us that would let a kit go for low dough to help out a junky. Are you adept at cleaning 'em up and maybe wrapping if necessary? It might help you.

I believe you just did...but, if you want to be official...post a new thread in the "WANNA BUY" section and describe what you might want. Question...are you ok at restoration? Can you do the wraps and clean 'em up? That makes a HUGE difference in price. Answer these questions and I'll bet several people would give you a hand in acquiring a kit. I've got a mutant Luddy I would part with to help you out. No sweat. I know we've got stuff for you. So, let us know where you comfort zone is set at and we'll get you some help.
