70's Ludwig Butcher Block kit I have, can I get an opinion? Last viewed: 51 minutes ago

Hi Guys,

I'm being forced into an apartment and I have to sell my acoustic kit to buy an electronic kit. The problem is I've been getting mixed signals about what I should ask for the kit. You guys seem to be really knowledgeable about this stuff and I was wondering if you could give me some sort of idea...

The kit is a 7 piece Butcher Block kit with the Cortex finish. The toms sizes are:

12x12

13x12

14x12

16x18

18x18

14x7 Snare

24x18 Bass

There is scratching on one of the toms, and significant tom rash on the bass from careless previous owners, but all in all the kit is in great shape, and it looks + sounds great.

I also have the original cases for the drums, they are hard leather Ludwig cases and there's one for every drum.

So basically my problem is that some people are offering me about $700 for the shells, and I've had a few people email me telling me to eBay these because they are worth more than what local people would offer me for them. I haven't been drumming for a terribly long time and I just don't know what these are worth, and my internet searches haven't yielded much success.

I tried to attach some photos, but I'm not sure if it worked. If anyone could just give me a nudge in the right direction it would be greatly appreciated.

Where are you located? If you're in an urban area, you'll have a better chance with craigslist (more buyers) than a rural area.

I think $700 is a bit low for that; the 24" bass and 18" floor tom are pretty sought after, though I don't think that particular wrap is. I think you might have a couple of your measurements off; be sure to measure the diameter of the actual drum shell by the height of the actual shell (not hoops/rims)

What snare drum is with it?

It's really hard to say, but I would think you'd get a $1000 on ebay, but who knows. Ebay can be a pain too, as that would be a lot of stuff to pack up and ship.

If I'm selling stuff, I usually try to post on these forums' for sale section first.

Are you thinking of parting the kit out? If so, I would be interested in a few items.

Are you selling hardware as well?

Thank You,

Dooooood,

Are you selling the bass drum by itself?

I have a butcher block with a 22" I'd love to get a 24" to match my playing a bit.

I would say the drum size's are 8x12,9x13,10x14 mounted toms--floor toms are 16x16 ,16x18--bass 14x24--snare 5x14 or 6 1/2x14--700.00 just for the drum sounds right to me but with stands and cymbals 1,200.00-1,500.00 because of the wrap...Mikey

Wow - everyone knocks the butcher block wrap. Including me - and I have a similar set from the same era!

But you know, looking at your kit, I think the BB is looking pretty cool again! And I'm not just saying that to drive up the value of my butcher block drums (which I might sell).

But your pic gave me a pang of lust I haven't felt since I was 12 in 1975, that these would be the coolest looking drums on the f*cking planet if I could only beg my parents hard enough...

Thanks for the memory jolt. All you psych wrap dudes, in 5 years you'll be sorry you bought into those horrible ugly colors. Butcher block will rule again like a quality mullet.

Good luck fellow butcher dude. Those are awesome drums.
