So this just popped up on craigslist in my area... i've played a few rogers kits from this era and liked them all, i'm just wondering if anyone can share an expert opinion!

What little I know about Rogers...this is a nice kit. I don't prefer the single head toms, but they should sound very good...considering the shells. I would imagine this is a very good price. I wish you well. Truth is...it's approaching a steal. Those drums are worth WAY more than he is asking. You might want to check those snare drums he's offering as part of the kit. This is one of those deals that really has the hairs standing on end and the butterflies in the belly. Again, good luck on this one.

So he's gotten back to me, and from what i can see it's the original snare from the kit, 14/5.5 and pretty fair condition for it's age. My only concern is with the toms as they aren't set up with resonant heads. I'm not sure how common this is for kits from the early 70s or how this will affect the sound? ... either way, I'm gonna go take a look at them this week!

Looks like a concert tom Londoner 7 set. Script badges means real Rogers, not imports. Likely a Dyna on the snare, so check if it has the rail still. If so, it would be worth $300+ USD if in decent shape. Even a Powertone is worth $150-200 depending on condition. Swivo stands worth couple of hundred $ as well. $700 looks like a good deal with just this info. Always try to work the price if it feels right.

White drums are not the most prized, so you could work on replacing the toms over time if you keep an eye out, and sell the others as you replace them. Still could be a good deal if it's worth the time and effort to you.

Good luck.

**UPDATE**

So i got some more info from the seller, i`d like to know what you folks think of the snare and the badge... I`m pretty sure it`s a super ten

keep in mind though that this is my first vintage kit, and while it`d be cool to own, i`m ultimately going to use this for gigging.

A Superten has 10 lugs and a steel shell. That looks to have 8 lugs. Check the shell with a magnet. The chrome will attract it some, but very weakly. A steel shell will grab pretty well. And those lugs look to be from the Yahama built Rogers drums. Have they been swaped out?

Good point, I totally missed that; this is turning into a real noodle scratcher. The idea concert toms have grown on me though; I look forward to playing the signature "in the air tonight" fill over and over untill i am inevitably kicked out of my band. D' Drummer bumbum bumbum bumbum bumbum bomp bomp!
