60s Slingerland---is this too good to be true? Last viewed: 1 hour ago

Hey guys,

I'm new to the forum---I've been looking for an old jazz kit for awhile, and haven't been able to find anything. Good to know a place like this exists---wish I had found it sooner.

Anyhow, I found this kit on craigslist:

http://washingtondc.craigslist.org/mld/msg/1769517406.html

I'm pretty green when it comes to vintage drums, but I think I'd like to get an old kit and try and restore it. So I have a few questions:

-Is this really a 60s Slingerland?

-Do 60s Slingerland's sound good?

-Based on the description, would this be reparable?

Any tips you guys have would help. I'm going to try and look at it this week. Thanks!

I thought the mount on the bass drum didn't have the logo until the 70's?

Cool project. Stamps on the shells? I like that finish.

Good luck and keep us posted!

Might be a very late 60s. Might also be a 70s.

Yes. They sound amazing. They are by FAR my favorite vintage drum sound.

Yes. It should be fairly easy to get this one up and running - based on the info provided.

Thanks for the help guys. I emailed the guy as soon as I saw it. I'm really excited to see how it looks and fix it up, hopefully I can snatch this one up. I'll keep you posted.

I agree that it's definitely blue agate pearl. Thanks!

Hey Guys,

I got some more pics of the drumset, check em out:

He says he has an old Rogers snare and an old Premier snare that are missing some lugs. It sounds like he's willing to part with both too.

Looks like maybe a few wrap problem spots, but other than that they look pretty solid. With the 2 snares thrown in it sounds like a great deal Clapping Happy2. You will love the sound, I'm with Mcjnic, by far my favorite vintage sound.

I ended up getting the Slingerland set with cases for a pretty good rpice. It needs a little bit of repair, but it should be up and running with some work.

I also got a pretty good deal on a Premier Royal Ace. At least I think that's what it is....

...and where are the pics? ;)

One of the elementary schools in my district has a Premier Royal Ace they use as a concert snare. It's a great sounding little drum. I had to fabricate an adapter to put standard snare wires on it, but it looks like Puresound might sell replacements now.
