Anything should work, you could just pour it on and smear it around with a piece of cardboard if thats all you had

Don't tell my wife!
I removed a coat of black paint from my 1963 Jazz Festival snare using rubbing alcohol. I applied it and let it soften the paint for 5 minutes and then rubbed it off with pieces of old t-shirt. I tried the alcohol first on an area where the lug covered the wrap. It seemed to remove the paint and leave the wrap alone.

The rest of my kit is a 1969 but happily, although it is 6 years later than the Jazz Festival, the wraps are both pristine with very little fade. The black paint kept the UV light off the Jazz Festival. Not that I'd recommend it as a way to preserve old wrap finishes. x-mas3
I don't know if the paint was oil based or water based.
Be careful using your "suicide throne" by your pool...............1 wrong move, bath time for you!
i think im having the same problem a couple of people had on here... where if I leave the drum out with the 3M stripper applied over night, it dries out. Man... this paint that is sprayed onto the drums here must be really think because only little chips of paint are coming off at a time... Ive had to reapply the 3M several times on the same spot. I will try and post pictures of the "progress" soon.
so this is day #1 of stripping half of the 13'' tom. I found out that with this paint at least it's a "5 mins on" then peel/scrape with a metal putty knife. Anyone have suggestions as to what to do with the microscopic black flaked left over the gold sparkle? Rubbing alcohol like someone else mentioned? thanks!
when I used the stripper it was on a old lead based painted WFL shell. I had to put it on super thick to get it to do anything. Just thought I would share that!
