3M 90 Spray Adhesive? Last viewed: 1 hour ago

Anyone ever use this stuff for drum wrap? I have one snare to do and I am trying to avoid buying a $40.00 gallon of the 3M Fastbond.

I've used it to hold the lining for drum cases with, but I doubt it would be strong enough to do a quality wrap job.

Not near strong enough . I have used Weldwood contact cement in a pinch and it is still perfect after years of use .

I've used it on 7 or 8 drums with delmar pvc wraps. I had read that a custom drum maker had used it for years.

Also, I believe that the 3M spray adhesive is used on countertop laminates, so it's probably strong enough for a drum wrap. Research for yourself though.

My only concern was that it might melt the wrap, but that didn't happen.

It's the same stuff factories use for laminates. It's not only strong enough, it's much easier to use and you get a nice smooth glue without lumps.

I did an 18-12-14 in 2001.

There is no change. No pulling on the lugs, no seam separation.

This was taken in 2012. But there is no change today from then.

I am sold! Nice kits Ploughman. They remind me of my Slingy bop kit I made a while back. 1 More question about the spray adhesive. It says on the can to wait one or two minutes before sticking the adhesive together versus the 30 minutes that is recommended when using traditional contact cement. How long did you guys wait for it to tack up?

I used the spray can stuff ( it was a more industrial grade) for my first couple kits and it work's fine. The issue with it in my case is the nozzle would clog up while you were spraying causing the spray pattern to go from 4" wide to a straight stream. This would produce a high spot in the adhesive and a slight lump in the finished job. That was with veneer, regular wrap is a little heavier and would probably cover it better.

As far as the wait time, after you spray it on wait that one minute. Lightly press on finger on the adhesive, if it sticks to your finger then it is too wet, you should be able to pull your finger off without it sticking.

Yes, very nice job on the kit Ploughman!

Thank you!

Make sure when you stick it......... you want it stuck.

Because if you don't want it stuck.... you might want to try a couple of "How to skin a Deer" youtube videos.
