My first was a 14x24, and it was powerful. But I can get as much oomph out of my 22s, and I prefer them for ease of carriage and being able to get a tighter (and lower) setup.
If those aren't issues for you, then enjoy.

Gotta agree to a degree.. ( hey that rhymes! ) .. 24" bass drum popularity seems to be a bit cyclical... it comes and goes, although there have ALWAYS been 14X24 supporters of course! Personally, I play my Rogers BR Celebrity's with the 14X24 for most all gigs including trios/quartets. It's all in the technique, and Buddy proved just that numerous times! That extra 2" in height can be a problem for some people's set up, 'tis true. Fortunately not for me though! ( and I sit relatively low ) LOVE the 14X24!!

I have a recent production 24x16 and love it. Any deeper and I would expect a softer response. The 14" depth seems to be the sweetest all around depth for the 24s.
My Camco kit has the 24"... They are very amazing.
Ok I am all all for you guys liking 24's they are ok .. LOL but you need to work out more if you call any of these sizes to heavy to lug around I mean I tote a 14x26 6 ply and i could care less what it weighs i ;love the boom... also i am not a tall guy at 5'8 and i can mount a 10x14 or 9x 13 on a rail consolette with no problem 12x15 has to go on a snare stand but then it is too far left you just have to try a few setups to see what works... good luck.
Just finishing up a redo on a 13/16/24 set of wmp Slingerlands. Can't wait to play them out this weekend. Last 24 I had was 24 x18 Ayottes. The mahogany poplar maple shells should be a whole different ball game.

I definitely need to work out more, but it's not because the drums are too heavy. A 22 fits better in my small car.
Tuning plays a big part. I've played 24s that were muffled to within an inch of their life and 20s that were absolute cannons.
I love my vintage 14"x24" 3 ply Premier Bass drum. Part of my 70's Resonator kit but have the insert out. It has a double tom mount but I use the 13" on a stand and mount the 14" next to my 16" as a double floor tom set up. If you have enough room on stage and room to haul it around it is a really nice low sounding kick. I use Remo Maxx Bass heads with the muffler ring removed on the reso side.
Me too I love the big boom. My second kit (bought new) had 2 24" bass drums. They always sounded great.
Tommy P, I've said this before but that's about the most perfect Rogers WMP kit I've ever seen! :)
