BBK!... ah, it was the tom mount arm that you were asking about! Here's the skinny:

I am using the standard Ludwig 3/8 arm as that is what fits into the Ludwig mount on the drum. I had to "revise" what was supplied as OEM with the set as the original mount never put the rack tom in the right spot with regard to height, angle, and most importantly, it's position on the bass drum. The Ludwig factory kind of blew this one as they really didn't think about the fact that it is a 14X24 bass drum with a 9X13 rack tom on top of it. You need to get the tom "off to the side" of the bass drum to be in a comfortable playing position.. ( unless one sits very high, which I do not ) .. and interestingly, the original owner had the same problem... so much so that he never even used the supplied tom mount. He hung the rack tom from a crash cymbal stand. That wasn't an option for me as I don't care for that, not to mention the aesthetics. What I came up with was what you see in the pics: A 1970's era Ludwig double tom mount/post.. ( which fit the receiver plate already mounted on the bass drum ) .. and a Ludwig 3/8 "L" arm. Beauty is that Ludwig has pretty much kept a lot of the hardware sizes/diameters the same over the years... a major plus here! This mount enables me to get the rack tom down low and out off the top of the bass drum, putting it in a very comfortable playing postiton. The extended "L" arm is quite stable as is the double tom mount "head", plus there is now a TON of adjustability. While on this subject let me add that...

Ludwig put the ride cymbal shell mount it the proper spot, but mismounted the splash cymbal mount! Where they put it was completely unusable. To get around that, and to work in harmony with my revised tom mount with everything in the proper position, I went with a vintage hoop mount cymbal holder and a vintage WFL/Ludwig straight "L" arm for the splash. I came in from behind the mount to get it in the proper spot... perfect! As for my cymbals...

They are all Sabian HH's, certainly in BR's set-up, but with my sizes/weights. Ride is a 20" HH in a med/heavy weight.. ( lots of PING but with a decent wash ) .. a 17"" HH Extra Thin crash... a 17" HH Thin crash... 13" HH Manhatten hats... and a 8" HH splash. I've been playing this cymbal set-up for years, and in exactly these sizes/weights. I just move them around from set to set depending on what drums I'm playing.

The original owner of this set wishes to remain anonymous. That was his call. I will say that he is an east coast drummer and plays/tours with two artists that you would know for sure. His playing is in the swing/jazz arena. I actually met him at a drum show!... we stayed in touch from there. It was neat!
