This is my newly acquired Soundwave II kit from 1982. I also have a macthing 14" tom and a 6.5x14 beaded chrome Premier snare from that period. Oh, and, yes: the original owner took the original Premier spotted heads off on Day One & put them into storage for the next 34 years. I plan on doing so, too. The cast hoops must've been a custom order. You can tell these are the 1982 "Mark II" version as the lugs have a base that lifts them higher off the shell, allowing for the now-slightly smaller diameter birch shells. You can see the 1/4" space between the hoop of the head and the shell on the resonant side of the 13" tom pictured above.

The seller also threw in a matching 14x9.5 tom he had, mostly because I ASKED (begged?) him if he had any more pieces to this kit. Anything: hardware, drums, paperwork, receipts. He said he had the 14, but wanted to sell it separately. I pressed him to include it if I won, and he did. I Can Not WAIT to get this kit (Fed Ex says it'll be here early next week). When I saw it on ebay there was no WAY I was going to NOT get this kit! I was prepared to go to $2k, so it was a super cheap bargain for me @ $1050 (shipping included). I currently own & play 2 other vintage Premier early 70's kits (12, 16, 22 & 14, 16, 22), plus I have 3 other kits waiting to be refurbished, as well as half a dozen misc 70's Premier drums, and boxes of parts. Pretty much, if it's a Premier 1970's 3 ply drum, I'm throwing money at it. This is my 1st Soundwave kit, though I did custom order a new 1985 Premier 3 piece Projector series kit in their unique Mud Snakeskin wrap (15x14, 18x16, 24x18). That was my 1st (and last) Premier kit bought new, I've been buying up the older 70's Premier kits ever since. Truly, their 1970's drums were the company's greatest achievement, though some of the custom shop stuff they've done recently is admirable (but too expensive for my blood).
I met my wife playing Irish folk/punk drinking songs in the casinos of Las Vegas (made $1000/week, playing 4 hrs a night, 5 nights/week: AND there's no income tax in NV!!!!!!). I play mostly punk rock live these days, and the Premier 3 ply set up of 14, 16, 22 is just the perfect voice for me. Hitting the 14 and 16 TOGETHER (awesome), riding into or out of a passage, increasing volume or decreasing.... leads me to Pure Premier Drum Bliss. The shells on my green glitter kit (my Green Machine) is the prefect live set. I also have a 12, 16, 22 Premier 1972 kit in gold glass glitter for studio work. Every sound engineer I ever met just falls in LOVE with these kits! So I PLAY 'EM LIKE THEY'RE STOLEN!!!!!

Had the kit 3 weeks now, put on all new Evans EC2's and reso clears... what a GREAT sounding kit! Why don't they make extra small shells anymore? These really sound unique because of the huge gap between the shell and the drum head hoop. I've never seen drums with shells so much smaller than their respective head size. Just amazing.
