I have the opportunity to purchase a '77 Slingy set for $500. It ONLY includes bass drum, floor tom, two rack toms. No snare, no original stands, no hi-hat. Price: $500. Two of the drums need a re-wrap, though the wrap may be fixed, maybe. Does this sound high to you? (color is pearl).

Man, Thats a fence sitter. Could you buy a new kit of that quality, american made for 500.00, no way. Do you want to spend that much on a kit you might have to repair? I would not go any higher than 400.00
Agreed...aaaaaaahhhh.....it's totally a fence-sitter...arguments can be made either way....in the current used instrument market (currently somewhere in the sub-basement) my tendency would be to offer less and see if seller bites.
Are they thin shell with re-rings ? or the thicker shelled ones ????
They are thicker shells...I think 5 ply (?). It includes bass, floor tom and 2 rack toms. No snare or stands or hi-hat. The wraps on 2 of the 4 drums are cracked/peeling. I like them but there are a ton of drums out there....and buying yet another incomplete set....Its just another project. I have enough "project" sets right now. Plus the re-wrap will run a few hundred bucks, right?
I would pass on this one. There isn't enough there to justify the output. Like you said, there are a ton of 'em out there. I would walk away and wait for the next big tug on the fishing line. The last 500 dollar kit I purchased had the snare and all the hardware. There's a fine line between a low priced good deal and a kit worthy of bringing back to life. If you like the kit and really want to play it, then go for it. Me, I would pass on this one.
