Yes, I agree with you O-Lugs but my next question is... what wrap/finish would be considered the super-rare finish for 1970 Jazzette kits? Would it be a Thermogloss finish? O-Lugs, I know my kit is not perfect but in all your research have you ever seen a black bowling ball wrap Jazzette before? Also have you ever seen one before with the original 3 ply matching Jazzfest snare? And my last question... have you ever seen a transition B/O badge 3 ply snare like mine... I'm asking all these question because, I truly have no clue what I have.
The answer(s) is (are):
1. Never
2. No, I've never seen a Jazzette kit with a matching Jazz Festival snare drum.....mainly because, when I see a Jazz Festival with a Jazzette kit, I know it must have been custom-ordered in place of the normal Supraphonic
and, thus, can't be considered as a true "matching" snare for a typical or, let's say, "normal" Jazzette. And I state that with no malice whatsoever. I do realize that the evidence is stacked in favor of this particular kit to be something made very specifically for someone and that all the drums seem to belong together, as-is. I am not disputing that at all.
3. I've seen "transition badge" B/O Jazz Fests, yes. The badge sits low on the shell for the reason that has already been identified in this thread. No, I have not seen one in that particular finish....until now. ;)
I think what you have is a special "one-off" kit. It's a Jazzette shell pack with a Jazz Festival snare drum. There are endless theories of what it could be....like, maybe it was someone who worked at a music store and ordered the other drums that way and then installed his/her preference for the Rogers mounts on his/her own....I mean...anything is possible. But, since there is no reference material explaining how/what/when/why the other drums came to be, there really isn't a clear way to identify them with the same type of monikers that Ludwig made up for their reference-able kits. They are just....drums....very cool drums.
