But, on the other hand, I'll agree that IF I ever see a Citrus Mod Jazzette kit that's legit, then all bets are off, AGAIN. WHY? -EXCEPTIONS!!

Again, a super-rare finish also "trumps" other aspects of collectibility, in some cases -especially some finishes. There are collectors who collect JUSt for the finish. It's a different, EXCEPTIONAL, category.

Yes, I agree with you O-Lugs but my next question is... what wrap/finish would be considered the super-rare finish for 1970 Jazzette kits? Would it be a Thermogloss finish?

O-Lugs, I know my kit is not perfect but in all your research have you ever seen a black bowling ball wrap Jazzette before? Also have you ever seen one before with the original 3 ply matching Jazzfest snare? And my last question... have you ever seen a transition B/O badge 3 ply snare like mine... I'm asking all these question because, I truly have no clue what I have.

I've seen a snare with the hole for the badge at the keystone level but a blue/olive badge in it. Not in Oyster Black Pearl (bowling ball).

I've got a Jazzette from 1969/70 which has blue/olive badges in the serial numbers in the 76xxxx. This is about right so far as we know from all the recent research*. The changeover still seems to have been 750xxx. Mine has a 12" tom with the hole for the badge at the keystone level but a blue/olive badge in it. Those are the sorts of things which happened at that transition time between keystone and blue/olive badges. At first the blue/olive badges did have serial numbers which went on from 750000, but later there was a period of no serial numbers.

I use a matching Jazzfest but from 1963. All in White Marine Pearl. Jazzette plus Jazzfest works for me too, even if it isn't "catalog" perfect.

Thanks for the information!

How can I get a copy of your research? Can you tell me anything about my serial number 1029445?

Thanks...

I've sent you a PM regarding the research.

Your serial number is about a 1976-ish number (based on Rob Cook's work), which doesn't sit in the series along with the blank serial number blue/olive badges which are around 1970 (and consistent with that date stamp of yours).

And since Jazzettes are always nice on the eyes:

You can see that the hole for the 12" tom badge is at the keystone level rather than the blue/olive level. Same deal as your snare.

Thanks for the PM and photo! Just like one VDF member stated earlier about Jazzette... that it is very seldom to see a Jazzette without sonething crazy about it... like my 12x18 bass drum serial number being so high and the other B/O drums without any serial numbers at all? So if my serial number is from 1976... when did Ludwig stop/change the clear maple inside?

The answer(s) is (are):

1. Never

2. No, I've never seen a Jazzette kit with a matching Jazz Festival snare drum.....mainly because, when I see a Jazz Festival with a Jazzette kit, I know it must have been custom-ordered in place of the normal Supraphonic

and, thus, can't be considered as a true "matching" snare for a typical or, let's say, "normal" Jazzette. And I state that with no malice whatsoever. I do realize that the evidence is stacked in favor of this particular kit to be something made very specifically for someone and that all the drums seem to belong together, as-is. I am not disputing that at all.

3. I've seen "transition badge" B/O Jazz Fests, yes. The badge sits low on the shell for the reason that has already been identified in this thread. No, I have not seen one in that particular finish....until now. ;)

I think what you have is a special "one-off" kit. It's a Jazzette shell pack with a Jazz Festival snare drum. There are endless theories of what it could be....like, maybe it was someone who worked at a music store and ordered the other drums that way and then installed his/her preference for the Rogers mounts on his/her own....I mean...anything is possible. But, since there is no reference material explaining how/what/when/why the other drums came to be, there really isn't a clear way to identify them with the same type of monikers that Ludwig made up for their reference-able kits. They are just....drums....very cool drums.
