1966 Ludwig Chrome Snare - How much is it worth? Last viewed: 27 minutes ago

Loading...

I have a 1966 Ludwig snare that is a hand-me-down from my drumming father who bought it from a high school friend that looked me up in hopes that I might still possess it so that he could make an offer on it and buy it back for its sentimental value. I have used this snare for both live and studio work and it's always amazing so I'm not quite sure I want to give it up just yet. I would like to know how much any of you think it is worth.

Ludwig

Serial # Badge: 266724

Date stamp: July 16, 1966

Chrome plated brass? maybe? I'm unclear on the metal...

10-lugs

5"x14"

Some cosmetic "acne" as I've seen it referred to - otherwise great shape. Original hoops, newer set of snares on the original strainer...

I've attached some photos...tell me what you think is a fair value range.

Thanks!

Not brass. Judging on condition I'd say around $80-$130.

Did some more searching and found this catalog pic of the original kit that this snare was packaged with and this snare is listed as a Supra-Phonic 400. This is the exact kit I grew up playing in my basement - right down to the pink champagne finish pictured. Even in its current cosmetic condition is this still the value you would assess this snare drum for? Seems really low for such a great sounding and sought after drum...

You have to take into consideration a thing called inflation....$93 back then was a lot of money.......

I can see both side of this coin.

You both share the same sentiment. A good solution would be to ask for a trade, either from his current line up, or to begin a search of CL, and ebay for another supra. I would also suggest that you request to be included in his will to have it returned at his demise, since you both have sentimental attachment to this particular instrument. And to make it fair to both, since you would getting another supra in the 2nd scenario, maybe splitting the cost. Just an idea. ;)
