1960 Super Classis Last viewed: 58 minutes ago

What should I be willing to pay for a 1960 super classic that is missing the tom mount, has minor rust/pitting, and has been drilled for a different tom mount. I'd give it a 61/2 out of 10.

My immediate question is...

what tom mount was it drilled for?

That will make a serious difference.

If it is a Rogers Swivo, that's not bad. If it's a modern Pearl, ... ouch.

It looks to be a slingerland. Same shape as the early 60's ludwig.

Could it have been a Luddy clip mount? That would make it appropriate.

It sounds like he may be describing a Set-o-matic mount....in which case that would be the same bolt-up pattern as the earlier clipper mount.....easy to hide the one extra hole in the center with a clipper mount... :D

OH! You actually have the mount on the drum??? DOH I missed that. Well, if it's Slingy, then definitely use the clip mount. It should fit the pattern. Your call if you plug the shell. Nice option.

Okay so here is all the information. What Should I pay. Bass drum and rack tom are stamped 1960 with clear interiors and the floor tom is stamped 1961 with white interior. There is minor rust/pitting on all metal. The diamond plate ludwig tom mount is missing and has been replace with a slingerland of the same shape. The bearing edges are fair and the tom mount is missing.

Bearing edges = "fair"

That drops the price considerably.

I would not pay over 500 total. I would shoot for 350.

It needs some work and some parts. The bearing edge thing is the killer. When you work on those, they improve at a serious blow to overall value. It's like when I wrap a kit. It improves the drum but at a serious cost. There has to be almost no other choice. In the case of edges, you're cooked. If the edges are rough, the drum is shot as far as value is concerned. It can be repaired, but at a cost for the work and at a cost for the resell. Major hit.

That's my take on it. Some may disagree and that's ok. We all come at vintage gear with different sets of eyes and standards.
